Investments and Wealth Solutions (IWS) is our new global business combining Retail Wealth Management and Global Private Banking, to become one of the world’s largest global wealth managers. The main purpose of the role will be to support sustainable growth in all IWS markets, driving crisis management e.g Russia/Ukraine response, liaising with all business and risk stakeholders globally to ensure we are compliant, oversight of the transformation needed for all regulatory requirements etc. Ensuring IWS Chief Operating Office (COO) and IWS Executive Committee (ExCo) are fully aware of any emerging risk / regulatory issues etc., details below:
Role Purpose:
The role holder will lead a team based in multiple locations (onshore & offshore). They will work closely with the in-country CCO/Business Oversight teams to ensure that IWS related responsibilities are effectively executed aligned to the bank’s risk appetite and global policies.
In addition, the Global Head of IWS Business Oversight will assist the Global Head of IWS and IWS COO in developing high quality reporting, relevant MI needed for the Risk and Reg landscape as well as developing Global Policies to set the Global Risk Appetite. The role holder will engage with 1st Line of Defence, 2nd Line of Defence, Global Private Banking & Wealth business (GPB&W).stakeholders and may potentially face external regulators to ensure all IWS initiatives are aligned to regulatory and policy expectations.
The purpose of the role is to support the IWS function in delivering and co-ordinating risk activities across the first line of defence and implement a consistent and effective approach to end-to-end risk management for IWS.
Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure the Global coverage for IWS is and remains compliant with the minimum standards for Business Oversight teams including Global Principles and Risk FIM. - Produce timely and accurate management information for senior management and relevant risk committees’ attention, along with commentary on emerging trends and risks for IWS.
- Support the Group IWS teams in delivering on key objectives.
- Support the implementation of business strategies and delivering a best-in-class wealth management experience to GPB&W customers globally through ensuring effective design and implementation of control standards, governance and procedures.
- Be the subject matter expert on product and distribution risk issues within IWS business.
- Maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in local markets, Region and Group, to ensure the business is compliant, successful and profitable. And, to share and promote best practice across markets that aligned with target operating model for GPB&W.
- Develop close collaborative partnership with CCO and 2LoD, to ensure business owned controls are working effectively and issues and actions are proactively managed.
- Attend various governance, risk and business forums on behalf of IWS, and prepare the necessary presentations and papers for discussion.
- Effectively oversee the day-to-day tactical issues and delivery of strategic initiatives across the IWS business.
- Support the Bank’s ESG strategy.
- Liaison with Audit to support findings and reviews.
- Secretary of the Risk Oversight Committee.
- Support the Global IWS team in delivering on key objectives.
Skills/ Experience
- Practical experience of major business transformation with large scale regulatory change management experience;
- Detailed working knowledge of risk management and operational risk frameworks, particularly in relation to the retail and private bank wealth market, with insights on sector trends;
- Understand risk and making decisions in highly complex situations where there are potentially major consequences for the business;
- Ability to manage and mitigate operational risk effectively through critical thinking, creativity and innovative techniques and solutions;
- Demonstrated business knowledge, ideally experience of leading a complex business unit within a global banking environment;
- Experienced people leader in complex global institutions. A track record of creating highly-motivated and cohesive teams;
- Strong interpersonal skills; be an effective communicator and possess strength of character.
- Capable of inspiring and influencing colleagues both upwards and downwards and internally and externally;
- Proven experience as a senior leader in a complex organization;
- Demonstrable experience dealing with and influencing internal and external senior stakeholders (ExCo members, Board, CEOs) and regulators.
