We seek a candidate who is:

The role of Associate is to support our investment process and interface with our portfolio companies and investor members, while helping us to expand and build on current traction and expand our operations. The candidate will also support us developing a VC fund to sit alongside our existing investment activity, and will receive share options additional to a competitive salary.
The role will include training (formal, and on-the-job), so prior experience is not required for this position, but the successful candidate will be a self-motivated and a self-starter eager and driven to grow the business and provide value to our investor members and portfolio companies.
Science Angel Syndicate supports investments in science-based ventures, so applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong scientific background, holding a minimum of a Masters degree, preferably PhD.
The role has a broad, all-encompassing remit with a high level of flexibility required due to the evolving nature of the business. Candidates should thrive in an unstructured environment and be able to provide self-direction and proactively seek opportunities to support the team.
The Associate will engage with all levels of the business that require support, as well as our parent company Spin Up Science Ventures to help build new venture companies; an exciting opportunity for a candidate looking to understand the full working dynamics of a business.
Key responsibilities
- Initial screening of new investment opportunities
- Attending start up pitch events on behalf of Science Angel Syndicate to gather information on potential portfolio companies
- Assessment of markets and sectors to understand industry trends and delivering on data analysis/business intelligence requirements
- Supporting investment due diligence with market research
- Operational systems management, for example, supporting the deal flow process from start to finish
- Assisting with office management and event organisation and management
- Supporting tracking and monitoring of portfolio companies and collating reports, keeping track of information collected to date
- Support recording and documentation of investee interviews and portfolio companies updates.
Our ideal candidate is
- A self-starter and entrepreneurial
- Holds at least a Masters, preferably a PhD, in a Scientific Discipline
- Able to represent Science Angel Syndicate to members and 3rd parties, and subscribes to our culture and standards of behavior
- Well spoken and presented and comfortable leading meetings with investee companies
- Team focused, proactively seeks opportunities to add value
- Highly detail orientated and able to work well with complex data
- Able to think analytically, to understand and synthesize complex, diverse and incomplete information to support sound decision making
- Ability to work in an unstructured environment where procedures and processes are not always established
- Highly proficient in software and digital tools and processes
