In this role you will support the Sexual Crime Unit with your main responsibilities being on the Messina Desk. The Messina Desk is GMP's point of contact with other law enforcement agencies who disseminate sensitive intelligence to GMP relating to Online Child Sexual Abuse. Resilience is key as the material you will be exposed to captures the sexual abuse of children.
You will often be the first point of contact for other law enforcement agencies and so representing GMP'S professional high standards.
It will be your responsibility to review and develop intelligence in a timely manner and then you will disseminate packages to districts, other forces or when you identify the risk as High or Very High, to the team of detectives in the Sexual Crime Unit.
You will use existing frameworks to develop the intelligence, powers under RIPA and IPA legislation, request information from our external partners, research on police systems, use open source research and then record intelligence on IOPS.
Previous experience in partnership working, safeguarding and intelligence development would be beneficial. The nature of the role requires the viewing of indecent images of children.
Due to the quantity of intelligence received on a daily basis you will need to have good organisational skills and be able to prioritise both new work and ongoing work you are developing.
You will work closely with colleagues in the Sexual Crime Unit in particular other Investigative Assistants, supervision in the Sexual Crime Unit, the Covert Authorities Bureau and external partners.
Due to the ever evolving nature of online platforms an interest in this field would benefit the applicant, as would an investigative mind-set.
