The Role & Key Responsibilities
Vacancies have arisen for Typists (full-time or part-time) within the Surrey & Sussex Specialist Crime Command, which incorporates Major Crime, Serious Organised Crime (SOCU) and Economic Crime (ECU).
At the centre of a major enquiry is the Major Incident Room where all forms of information are collated from many sources. We are looking for an experienced Typist to join our team in the Major Incident Room based at Woking police station.
You will provide an efficient and effective typing service, to include audio typing and document scanning, for all three departments.

In this role you will provide an efficient and effective typing service, to include audio typing and document scanning, for all three departments.
You will accurately type or electronically import documents within the Major Incident Room into our HOLMES system for the benefit of the investigative and the judicial processes. These documents include statements, officer’s reports, questionnaires, messages, interview transcripts and any other document to meet the administrative requirements of the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO).
Skills & Experience
It is essential that you have:
- Demonstrable experience as a Typist using Microsoft Word. Previous experience of data entry would be an advantage.
- Keyboard typing skills with a typing speed of at least 60 wpm.
- The competency to audio type, preferably with previous work experience within this field.
- The ability to plan and prioritise work and to work calmly and accurately under pressure with the minimum of supervision.
- The aptitude to assimilate detailed information
- The capability and understanding of the need for absolute discretion in handling matters of a personal, sensitive and confidential nature.
- Previous experience of working effectively within a team coupled with good interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy, combined with the ability to work to strict time scales.
- The willingness to undergo security level vetting.
- A GCSE in English Language (Grade C or above) or equivalent.
- A mature outlook and the ability to remain detached from the content of the work, some of which will be highly sensitive and could be distressing.
Please Note: You will be required to complete a typing test as part of the interview process.

Further Information
The core business hours for the team are 08:00 - 16:00 from Monday to Friday. The specific working patterns for the roles may be negotiated, with due consideration to sufficient coverage within those core hours.
Whilst this role is based at Woking police station, there is the option to work remotely for part of the week, subject to agreement.
