Main duties of the job

You will help deliver highly specialist speech and language therapy to either the inpatient wards at Maidstone Hospital or the outpatients attending the regional Kent Oncology Centre. Posts are available across the Acute, Stroke or Head & Neck/ENT services depending on skills and experience.
You will need to be autonomous in dysphagia assessment and management. You will also need excellent communication skills, a professional approach to both clinical and administrative duties, be organised with excellent prioritisation and time management skills. We run a FEES and videofluoroscopy service and experience in instrumental assessments would be desirable but is not essential as training can be provided. Variable site and weekend working will be expected.
We are looking for either Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapists and developing posts will be considered, as well as part-time or annualised hours.

Speech and Language Therapy currently sits within the Diagnostic & Clinical Support Directorate, within the Therapies Division and is co-located with Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetics with excellent admin support on both sites, making easy work of joint working.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or post graduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registered member of HCPC & RCSLT (Or working towards)
- Evidence of CPD/reflective practice
Desirable
- RCSLT Dysphagia competency Level A
Experience
Essential
- Multidisciplinary team working
- Knowledge of formal SLT assessments used with adults
Desirable
- Experience of working with adults in the acute setting
Skills/ Knowledge
Essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational and reflection skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage your own time effectively
- Knowledge of evidence based practice, especially in the areas of dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria and dyspraxia
- Knowledge of basic IT packages
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance
Desirable
- Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in assessment, diagnosis and management planning
- Basic knowledge of national policies and standards
