Salary Range: £ 30,000 plus Chamber benefits

Role Overview

We seek to recruit an International Trade Specialist to join our highly knowledgeable and experienced International Trade team.

The International Trade Specialist role will help provide our global members with the advice, support and information needed to unlock their exporting potential, security of their supply chain and develop their presence on the global stage.

The Chambers International Trade department comprises specialist customs declarations and export documentation teams as well as the international services team.

Experience and understanding of international trade are essential elements to the role. A key element of the role will be to work collaboratively across the Chambers networks to maximise the Chambers international trade commercial opportunities. Our aim is to provide North East businesses with the expertise, tools and support to enable our members to successfully trade internationally.

We understand the complex and fast paced challenges businesses face while exporting and importing their products and services. Our ambition is to grow our members global footprint and expand their reach, we see the role of International Trade Specialist key to us achieving this

What Youll Be Doing

This is a key role within our International trade team to manage the global proposition offered. Tasks undertaken within this role will include but not limited to:

  • Increasing awareness of the value that the North East England Chamber of Commerce can bring to businesses trading internationally in the region and to encourage greater engagement from them into the Chambers proposition.
  • Arranging the Chamber International Trade forum, networking events, panel discussions and 1-2-1 meetings with the global network.
  • Engaging with the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) Global Business Network and establishing connections with other international Chambers, capitalizing on the global network through sharing best practice and building relationships.
  • Participating in contributing to the BCC global group on LinkedIn and Twitter, and actively contribute to articles that would be featured throughout the year on these platforms.
  • Researching and identifying potential areas for relevant training courses for Chamber members and non-members. Providing statistics, forecasting and future projections concerning most relevant and up to date training courses relevant to Chamber members and the regions businesses.
  • Contributing to the overall Chamber networking training offer through BCC steering committee.
  • Ensuring a professional international trade consultancy service by keeping abreast of international trade matters including awareness of processes and rulings of BCC as well as government and public sector organisations and related bodies. Keeping up to date knowledge in relation to customs and trade developments especially post EU-exit related matters.
  • Setting up and delivering an extensive program of training including e-learning courses, events, seminars, as well as bespoke training that are appropriate for international trade professionals and ensure that appropriate trainers are sourced.
  • Organising and promoting the International Trade Forum.
  • Contributing to the Chambers Knowledge Hub by working closely with the Knowledge Manager.
  • Benchmarking the Chambers commercial offer to ensure costs including discounts are competitive within the North East region.
  • Attending relevant events, training and economic summits as deemed appropriate by the Head of International Trade and in line with the Chambers needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English.
  • University degree in Business Administration, International Law, or any International Trade related subject is desirable, but not essential.

  • Experience of working in an international trade environment is essential.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to provide monthly reports.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Customer orientated and focused.
  • Commercial understanding.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external partners.
  • Strong desire to identify solutions to problems and instigate change.
  • Proficient in IT systems including Microsoft packages, Zoom, Teams and CRM based programs.

  • Be able to work flexible hours and locations.
  • Drive and enthusiasm in supporting our members and the North East business community.
  • Approachable and ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the international trade team, wider business, and external partners.
