Why work in The Scottish Highlands?

The Scottish Highlands is known worldwide as containing some of the nation's most outstanding landscapes and natural features. The area offers city living, towns with all the amenities to serve the surrounding rural areas, and some of the most beautiful remote places in the UK.

The city of Inverness offers an excellent quality of life, a varied cultural experience, and first-rate educational opportunities. Wick, Fort William and Oban are among the area's thriving towns, with good transport links, and easy access to outdoor pursuits.

There are excellent transport networks including direct flights from Inverness to London airports (Gatwick, Luton and Heathrow), Birmingham, Manchester, Belfast, Dublin and Amsterdam.

Covering around 42 per cent of Scotland's land mass, the area covered by NHS Highland features the most dramatic scenery in the UK, with striking mountain ranges and numerous lochs, the largest of which is Loch Ness. Some 23 miles long and more than 750 feet deep, it is by volume the largest body of fresh water in the UK. However, it is perhaps best known for sightings, alleged or otherwise, of the Loch Ness Monster.

There are numerous islands within NHS Highland's area, of which 36 are inhabited. The largest is Skye, now connected to the mainland by a bridge, with a population of around 10,000.

Ben Nevis (1,346m) is the UK's highest mountain and dominates the landscape around the town of Fort William. The next five highest mountains in Scotland are in the Cairngorms range, largely situated within NHS Highland's area.

The North of Scotland offers a fantastic range of adventurous outdoor activities with opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, climbing, road racing, mountain biking to name but a few. If you're looking for outdoor recreation, then this job can offer a sense of calm, space and openness that is unrivalled. The North of Scotland is also a top destination for surfers with locals and tourists coming to the region specifically to surf in places such as Thurso.

If you prefer a more relaxed approach, the North of Scotland has a great selection of restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes and music festivals like Belladrum, Tunes in the Dunes, and the Hebridean Celtic Festival and prove to be a great way to spend your time off.

If this sounds like you and you feel you have what it takes to succeed in this role, We would love to hear from you so click on "Apply Now" or get in contact with the team to have an informal chat.
