Job description

Position Objective:

To coordinate efforts with PETA entities and other external agencies to provide support during global disasters.

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Location:

Remote within mainland UK

Salary:

£28,000–£34,000, depending on experience

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Immediately report to the Managing Director any significant, destructive event such as an earthquake, hurricane, flood, that involves harm to animals to discuss the possible need for our involvement
  • Identify any animal protection organisations at or near the site and assess their capabilities and policies, and, as needed, communicate with them
  • Determine which PETA entities are closest to the event and liaise with their chief operating officer, if deemed necessary
  • Maintain information on volunteers and others who are verified capable of various forms of assistance to animals, including veterinarians, and how and where to find them for potential assistance in an emergency
  • Assist in arranging training for potential vital helpers
  • Coordinate all elements of response, from ground assistance to liaison with other entities
  • Coordinate funding to other animal protection groups, as well as supplies procurement and delivery, and other useful forms of assistance
  • Coordinate and relay communications within the PETA organisations, as needed
  • Generate timely reports on progress, difficulties, and other pertinent information
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Previous experience in project coordination, preferably internationally
  • An interest in animal protection and/or animal rights
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
  • Proven excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Problem-solving abilities and responsible judgement
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Adherence to a vegan lifestyle preferred
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
  • Willingness to travel, including at short notice

Preferred

  • Animal shelter/rescue and care experience
  • Knowledge of other languages
