HW People is supporting a leading East Yorkshire company recruit for an International Commodities Trader to join their well-established team. The group own a portfolio of companies across all sectors of the wholesale industry from logistics and sourcing to trading and distribution and currently has a workforce of 300+.
Overview
Responsible for executing the day-to-day activity of the Commodities Trading function, including (not limited to) raw material procurement and assisting in logistics and administration associated with procurement and co-product sales, both in the UK and overseas.
This is an office-based role, which will include an out-of-hours roster and occasional overseas travel. Our client operates in a highly demanding industry and flexibility and high energy is paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Trading across multiple countries & continents driving sales & managing costs to grow GP
- Compiling and distributing accurate market information to other members of the trading team to assist in informed market decisions
- Work with suppliers to improve supply chain efficiencies to meet agreed performance targets
- Work with Trading teams to provide accurate market prices and knowledge to assist in the pricing of contracts, and look for opportunities to add value to sales and secure margin
- Negotiating across both sales and sourcing to create GP whilst maintaining/growing relationships.
- Managing P&L for each individual deal and each country, customer and source area
- Creating and implementing strategy for each country and customer operated in and each source area purchased from
- Develop an understanding and have exposure to the Risk Management strategy with particular reference to the credit policy of the business
- Identifying & reporting any risks that is considered to have the potential to materially affect the business
- Building relationships with new and existing clients to maximise business & market development
- Understanding and navigation of the international market (incl. political changes) sales and/or sourcing in order to capitalise on future opportunities or avoid potential barriers/issues
- International client visits to understand each market, negotiating the risks and challenges of operating within countries with non-regulated economies
- Operational management of source areas overcoming language, cultural and political challenges to deliver seamless trading and logistics operations
- Managing international logistics across multiple countries
Candidate profile
- Exceptional buying and selling skills with previous experience in trading (ideally within the food or wholesale industries, however other industries will be considered)
- A proven track record of commercial delivery to the bottom-line
- Great attention to detail and an ability to multitask
- High energy and strong work ethic
- Highly analytical and logical
- Positive and flexible attitude and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience in a collaborative, team-based, results-oriented environment
- Preferably educated to degree level in Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or any other related subject
- Valid passport as overseas travel will be required
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £65,000.00-£80,000.00 per year
