TWO POSITIONS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER 2023
Endell Equine's hospital-based internship (working with hospital clinicians and nursing staff) will provide structured support to build the individual's clinical skills. Interns will be involved in diagnostic investigations of hospital admissions and day outpatient appointments as well as treatment/hospital care of inpatients. They will be trained in providing general anaesthesia and pre-, intra- and post-operative care of surgical patients.

Our internship program at Endell Equine Hospital offers an opportunity for a new/recently graduated vet, intending to pursue either a residency or a career in equine practice. Interns are expected to become competent in diagnostic imaging, medical investigations, general anaesthesia (supported by a specialist anaesthetist every 3-4 months), orthopaedic investigations, colic, and critical care. During the stud season, interns assist with inpatient AI mare scanning and ovulation checks. There is also the opportunity to gain in-house laboratory experience in our highly capable on-site lab. They are encouraged to provide goals for skills they would like to achieve during their year, so these can be accomplished. Further education is encouraged, with on-site activities including vet clinical club, M&M rounds and monthly tutorials.
Out of hours duties are shared on a 1 in 2 evening and weekend rota for inpatient checks, treatments, general anaesthesia and lab work. There may be opportunities to work at other local CVS practices in the second half of the year to broaden the individual's contacts and experience different caseloads. Visiting specialists to the hospital include other surgeons, internal medicine specialists, ophthalmologists and dental specialists.
Accommodation is provided in a two en-suite bedroom shared hospital house. A mobile phone is provided as well as a shared pool-car are provided for ambulatory calls when necessary.
Potential applicants are encouraged, where possible, to see practice with us. It is a requirement that applicants are a MRCVS. Preliminary interviews may be conducted online, however, it is recommended that candidates attend an interview in person to meet with the team.
Based in the Salisbury area for over 100 years, our RCVS Tier 3 hospital is well-established and has excellent spacious facilities. Resources include standing MRI, digital radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy including gastroscopy and overground upper airway endoscopy, nuclear scintigraphy, fully equipped surgical theatre with separate induction and recovery boxes, anaesthesia monitors and ventilator, standing surgery, laser (surgical and therapeutic), Equigait lameness locator, purpose built dental stocks, electrochemotherapy, isolation and intensive care.
Our diverse team consists of 7 vets, including a Diplomate surgeon. All vets are certificate holders, or working towards certificates, in multiple disciplines.
