Responsibilities:
As an Intern with Hines, you will support the European real estate Portfolio Modelling team. This is a paid internship. The candidate will aid in evaluating, forecasting, and understanding performance at a fund and asset level and will carry out other analytical and administrative tasks. The intern will also gain exposure to the broader real estate investment management industry and have the opportunity to work closely with senior professionals The intern will primarily report to and support the European Portfolio Modelling Team. The role will be based in Hines Europe’s London head office.

The position will suit a final year undergraduate or master’s degree student wishing to pursue a career in real estate, who would benefit from learning at one of the largest real estate investment companies in the world. The internship term can be flexible, ideally up to 12 months (exact dates to be agreed upon with the candidate). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting on wide range of financial analyses at the levels of individual assets, JVs, portfolios, and overall investment funds/accounts.
  • Assistance in building, operating, maintaining, and reviewing a wide variety of financial models, primarily in Excel with occasional Argus elements.
  • Supporting the preparation of quarterly reports and other materials for internal and external communication.
  • General support of senior team members in decision-making and execution of various investment strategies.
  • Supporting the stress testing and investor reporting processes,
  • Providing administrative assistance to the team to build out an effective reporting structure and a real estate database.
  • Helps to improve and refine the investment and asset management processes by carrying out pre-defined administrative tasks such as data reconciliation and error checking.
  • Support the Portfolio Modelling team in building and maintaining financial models for our real estate portfolio.
  • Collecting and analysing data to support the Portfolio Modelling team.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that all models are accurate and up to date.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements are:
  • Obtaining a university degree from high-calibre institution, preferably in a subject area demanding high analytical aptitude. Undergraduate or subsequent study emphasis on real estate/private equity/investment and/or finance/economics is not required but beneficial.
  • Sophisticated understanding of the MS Office suite, most particularly Excel, but also PowerPoint and Word.
  • Highly numerate with a strong skillset in representing the concepts of real estate investment accurately and efficiently in Excel form. Knowledge of Argus is a plus.
  • A broad understanding of the real estate investment and investment management process is desirable.
  • Experience in real estate investment/real estate finance/private equity is not essential but can be beneficial and will be taken into consideration.
  • Excellent communication skills with confident fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Pro-active, self-motivated, and adept at using own initiative to be most effective.
  • Attention to and care for detail in all work.
  • Ability to prioritize and work quickly to a high standard.
  • Positive energy and contribution to team spirit.
  • Ambition and desire to build personal skillset and value in the role.
  • Flexible approach to work and willingness/ability to travel.
  • Ability to work overtime as required by circumstances.
