Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.
The Role
We have an opportunity for an Engineer Intern to join our Applied Science team over the summer at our Warrington office.
Responsibilities
The candidate’s main responsibilities will be focused on R&D activities and they will be expected to undertake tasks in developing a risk assessment model for major hazards, examples including:
The candidate’s main responsibilities will be focused on R&D activities and they will be expected to undertake tasks in developing a risk assessment model for major hazards, examples including:
- Researching material properties and behaviours and their effects on human vulnerability.
- Developing consequence models.
- Data handling and visualisation.
There will also be opportunities to contribute to project work as part of a project team, activities including:
- Risk and safety studies.
- Modelling hazards (e.g. fires, explosions or gas releases) using numerical / computational techniques.
- Updating internal library / databases and guidance documents based on current practice and standards.
Qualifications
- Currently undertaking or have achieved a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical / Process Engineering (or similar Science or Engineering degrees).
- Programming skills, ideally in Python 3, though candidates with some limited programming experience from their undergraduate studies will also be considered.
- Good academic record.
