Wiltshire Police are looking for an eager and passionate individual to join the Wiltshire Intelligence Development Unit as a Criminal Intelligence Researcher. This is an opportunity for civilians to become involved in tactical and strategic policing and contribute toward keeping people safe and bringing justice to criminals across the county of Wiltshire, making a difference, having a positive impact and helping protect the most vulnerable members of our community.
The intelligence team help build the picture around criminality and community issues of all types, giving you the chance to personally develop jobs and take an active role in investigation work. In the role, you will actively scan and review, collect and collate intelligence, developing it through additional research to support your Analyst colleagues in identifying patterns and trends and developing hypotheses and inferences to explain them, to enable recommendations to be made to tackle the issues. You will be key in identifying intelligence gaps, which, when filled, will enable better resource allocation to mitigate threat, harm, risk concerns and you will be responsible for producing accurate and easy to read reports to disseminate information to decision makers in a timely way.
You will also be responsible for handling confidential information, often working under pressurised time constraints, processing large amounts of data and information quickly. Excellent organisational, problem solving, communication and time-management skills are therefore essential elements of this role.
No prior experience within policing is required, but you should have experience of conducting research. The research role will offer the chance to establish a complex and highly desirable skillset, transferable to a variety of roles, creating opportunities for further advancement within the police and world of criminal justice. This diverse skillset will be continually developed through skill enhancement, training opportunities and on-job experience.
In order to meet the fluctuating demands of our service you may be required to work in any capacity and at any location, within reasonable commuting distance. Due to the demands of the service, there may be occasions when you are required to work outside of normal working hours. The role is advertised as permanent and full-time and has been categorised as one which is ‘Agile’ (home working permitted) albeit office working is also expected given this role involves considerable team work. If you are interested in this role, please see the full Job Description.

Applicants must have five years continuous residency in the UK alongside the relevant right to work eligibility. Applicants will also ideally hold a full driving licence or be willing and able to travel for the purpose of work and will be expected to maintain high standards of confidentially and discretion. If successful, the post-holder will be subject to security vetting.
Please note, if you have applied for this role in the last 12 months and not been successful you need not apply.
