Avon and Somerset Police Intelligence Department, South West Regional Organised Crime unit and Major Crime Investigation Team are recruiting for Criminal Intelligence Analysts to join their departments.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who are good at finding innovative and practical solutions to problems.

You will be responsible for identifying, planning and conducting the collection and analysis of information and intelligence, including recorded crime data, digital data and open source information.

You will need to be happy to quickly understand, interpret and process large amounts of information from a wide range of sources.

We will teach you how to use analytical techniques that will enable you to provide an assessment of the threat, risk and harm and identify intelligence gaps and make recommendations. The starting pay grade for Intelligence Analysts is Scale SO2, (£34,287). All analysts are able to progress through Scale PO2-5 Higher Analyst role (£36,177-£38,856) via an assessed competency scheme. Intelligence Analysts will be required to obtain and maintain the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme Certification.

South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SW ROCU)

The SW ROCU investigates serious and organised crime across the five forces in the region – Avon and Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, using both covert and overt tactics to gather intelligence, prosecute and seize assets.
Depending on the area of analysis, roles can be largely office-based, within the vicinity of junction 16 of the M5 motorway, or blended home and office based working. Working hours are Monday to Friday. There will be a need to travel to meet with colleagues from other departments, Constabularies and agencies when required.

Avon and Somerset Intelligence and Tasking

Avon and Somerset’s Intelligence and Tasking Department provides intelligence support to all departments across the constabulary. The department supports a wide range of proactive and reactive criminal investigations, works with neighbourhood policing teams to identify, understand and manage local crime problems, uses data driven approaches to provide strategic insight into key crime threats, and develops problem solving approaches to disrupt criminals and safeguard vulnerable people.

The role of an Intelligence Analyst within the Intelligence and Tasking Department is based across a number of police stations force wide. The role is largely office-based and the core hours are Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600. The role also requires Intelligence Analysts to be rostered for on-call duties for several periods throughout the year covering Monday to Friday 1900-0700 hours and Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) 0700-1900 hours and 1900-0700 hours. Some roles within the department will require some flexibility around working times for operational reasons.

The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT)

The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) investigates major crime predominantly murder offences across three forces Avon & Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. The analytical team is at the forefront of the most serious of investigations and is often pivotal to identifying suspects and bringing those offenders to justice.

The role at the Major Crime Investigation Team is based in Bristol, however you may be required to work in Gloucestershire or Wiltshire force areas occasionally. The role requires shift work which includes a range of day shifts (0800-1800), late shifts (1400 - 2200) and working day shifts 1 weekend every 4 weeks.
