Job Title: Instructor
Department: Adult Development Program (ADP)
Reports To: Assigned ADP Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary
Responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of instructional programs to Ability Now Bay Area participants in the Adult Development Program for adults with disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Required to learn, utilize, and stay up-to-date with all technology platforms including: Zoom, Payroll Systems, StoriiCare, Emails, etc.

Assist in planning and scheduling weekly adult development programs

Plan, write and coordinate daily lesson plans that detail the materials, resources and activities for classroom instruction covering a one-week period for all assigned courses.

Direct & provide guidance to Assistant Instructors and Classroom Aides.

Provide individual and group instruction.

Act as an advisor for assigned participants.

Informally assess the capabilities of participants’ and select suitable developmental activities with input from the participants’.

Create individual participant objectives based on long-range Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Person-Centered Plans (PCP) goals and assessments. Create a Benchmark for participant goals.

Track current program objectives for all assigned participants and record comments in program participant files.

Evaluate effectiveness of program activities and adjust program accordingly.

Assist program participants with personal needs (i.e. pushing wheelchairs, assist with eating, and personal care) as needed.

Attend & contribute to curriculum meetings. Collaborate with staff on curriculum ideas.

Changes can occur in essential tasks due to changes in programs, such as those mandated by law, or as a condition to further funding by a grant sponsor or changes in state or federal law. Any change in essential tasks to be performed will be by written notice and will be an essential task or requirement only after such notice has been given.

Additional Job Requirements
Additionally, every staff member may be required to:
Load and unload buses.
Assist in other departments as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise staff working with you in the classroom.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Associates degree in Education, Special Education, Developmental Psychology or closely related field; and one year related experience teaching persons with disabilities. An equivalent combination of education, training, experience and demonstrated competence may be considered as meeting these requirements.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as professional journals, governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports, correspondence and lesson plans. Ability to teach, train and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, participants and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as interest, discounts, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems and collect data. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to adapt to varied and changing circumstances.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. They employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Note: Any lifting of program participants always requires two people.

Addendum

Employees are required to immediately clear or report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions in their work environment.

Requirements for Employment
Submit to a current physical examination and tuberculosis screening.
Provide a copy and maintain a current California driver’s license, submit a DMV clearance, and a copy of current insurance certificate for personnel file.
Maintain a current CPR certification.
Current fingerprint clearance (prints must be sent to the Department of Justice within four days of hire).
Sign a Form I-9 and provide required documentation.
