The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction, mining and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking an Instructional Designer to join our training department, based out of Bedford, NS.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Program Development, the Instructional Designer is responsible for the design and development of effective training programs for the Municipal Group of Companies. The designer will work closely with other members of the training department, subject matter experts, and other staff as needed. Much of the development will be using the Articulate Storyline 360 course authoring software, with courses being deployed across an internal Learning Management System. Additional tasks include courseware testing, learning materials development, as well as the updating and maintenance of existing learning materials.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development of new programs
- Testing of new programs
- Apply adult educations principles to create effective learning materials
- Follow development process for creation of new courseware / updating of existing courseware
- Conduct needs assessment with stakeholders and subject matter experts
- Identify, research, and source required content (information / media)
- Prepare scripts for professional voiceover recording as needed
- Provide weekly status updates on course completion timelines
- Gather and implement review feedback from stakeholders
- Test authored courseware on standard available delivery platforms (PC & Mobile)
- Identify and track required changes / improvements / fixes
- Any other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
- 2 – 5 years’ experience in a similar position
- Storyline 360 course authoring experience
- PowerPoint course authoring experience
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to work as part of a team, both in-person and remotely
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Strong analytical background and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
