Position overview
As a key member of the team, the Sign Maker and Installer is responsible for producing and installing signage at YVR, ensuring it meets our specifications and standards. We are looking for a multi-talented team member who is comfortable designing layouts, as well as producing and installing signage throughout the facility. This role is key to ensuring YVR meets our regulatory requirements, in addition to ensuring passengers have an exceptional experience at YVR. Working with many different stakeholders, you are a confident and clear communicator who will assist in ensuring efficient coordination of signage requests from requirements clarification through to installation scheduling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan closely with internal and external stakeholders on signage requests to ensure they meet standards and specifications
- Create signage artwork based on signage standards, for both fabrication, as well as content for digital signs, or develop new signage layouts and standards for non-standardized sign requests
- Produce signage which can include, but is not limited to, creation of pull-up banners, office markers, nameplates, free-standing signs, sign faces for back-lit overhead signage, plinths, stanchion-toppers, sandwich boards, curb signs, removable decals, vehicle decals and magnetic signs
- Maintain sign log, coordinate requests and installation schedules with stakeholders or third-party installers to ensure on-time delivery of signage plans
- Order supplies, source materials, and work with Supply Management for delivering and managing signage assets and supplies, in addition to other administrative duties as assigned to maintain the sign shop
- Document new standards and update the signage standards manual and specs on a regular basis
- Install signage throughout the airport
Key qualifications include:
- At least one year of sign making experience and one year of computer graphics program experience, supplemented by a minimum of a high school diploma; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Knowledge of different types of signage application techniques, and current processes for fabrication of both illuminated and non-illuminated signage, both indoor and outdoor
- Sign making skills such as weeding, taping and transferring to substrates, as well as experience with various pieces of sign-making equipment including saws, knives, hand tools, computer plotter and large format printer
- Experience with MS Office and graphics programs such as Flexi Sign, Gerber Omega and Adobe Illustrator
- Knowledge of various signage materials and substrates
- Ability to work on a ladder, as well as ability to lift rolls of vinyl for large format printer
- Attention to detail and ability to proof layout design and text for errors
