Network and Infrastructure Engineer

The IT Team within XPS Corporate Services is experiencing high growth and we are now looking to hire a Network and Infrastructure Engineer to join our vibrant Reading office with hybrid working.

XPS Group IT provides IT services to all XPS offices located across the UK and Ireland. XPS currently employs over 1,600 employees across multiple business areas. The Service Desk, 2nd line team, Infrastructure and Cyber Security are all in-house. We have Infrastructure Engineers and a dedicated IT Security Team monitoring the security of the network and servers. There is a primary data centre which uses physical Hyper-V servers running on Dell hardware. Around 360 Virtual and 35 physical servers exist across the business.


The role:

As a Network and Infrastructure Engineer with XPS you will…

  • Ensure all servers and network devices are in monitoring and is fit for purpose.
  • Work on security and network-based projects.
  • Respond to monitoring alerts.
  • Perform maintenance on all virtual servers, set-up maintenance plans and proactive monitoring.
  • Ensure all network and security devices are configured correctly, respond to Pen Test reports.
  • Ensure all servers are backed up, check daily for backup failures and resolve.
  • Be a point of escalation for all network related tickets.
  • Proactively be a part of the DR team ensuring all servers are backed up and those enabled for DRaaS are functional.
  • Carry out DR tests on network devices, individual servers and business systems.
  • Be part of the on-call team infrastructure rota, 1 week in 8. The support hours are 7am-7pm on the rota.

Your profile:

We are looking for an experienced IT professional with experience in a similar role who is looking for a new challenge and who wants to be part of this exciting period of growth. This role requires…

  • Strong Microsoft Windows skills and strong understanding of TCP/IP.
  • Experience managing and maintaining firewalls/ switches/ routers.
  • Familiar with network design best practice (e.g. N+1, HSRP, IPAM etc.)
  • A can-do attitude, ability to think on your feet and a team player.
  • Virtualisation skills with Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols.
  • Network Security : Firewalls/IPsec/SSL/ VPNs.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Azure Firewalls/ NSGs/ Load balancers/ Vnets.
  • Good working knowledge of DNS including SPF/DKIM & DMARC.
  • Knowledge of Illumio Host base firewall, Zscaler Internet filtering, Network Access Control (Forescout) is desirable.
