We have an exciting new opportunity to join our Information Governance Office Team as an Information Governance Officer.

To ensure that robust systems of assurance are in place to support the strategic direction of the University, enabling the “Our Future Strategy”, the University of Manchester is now recruiting an Information Governance Officer in the Information Governance Office within the Directorate of Compliance and Risk.
Working alongside programmes in the cyber security, research IT and information management space, we are looking for positive, proactive people who really believe in the values of our University and want to be part of a dedicated team of information governance specialists. Reporting to the Head of Information Security, the Information Governance Officer is a critical business and technology focused role. The job holder requires ambition and focus to help drive through the transformation required in our teaching and learning and research-based institution against a background of increasing regulatory focus, a rapidly evolving threat horizon, where our pioneering research discoveries involve interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-sector partnerships including the NHS.
Working within a team of Information Governance Officers, the IG Officer is responsible for supporting and helping to develop assurance for the protection of information within the University’s Faculties, Schools, Institutes and Professional Services functions. The role provides expert pragmatic, targeted data protection, information security, information risk management and records management support, guidance and training across the University, including leadership and researchers, in accordance with the relevant legislation, University information governance policies, standard operating procedures and technical security standards.
Drawing upon prior experience in delivering information governance initiatives the role is responsible for information security, data protection, information risk management and records management actions, working with academic and Professional Services stakeholders to deliver training and awareness in relation to these actions in accordance with the IG Office plan.
Providing expertise on key data protection, information security and cyber security processes including: information risk assessments; reviewing data protection provisions within University contracts, managing DP incidents and exception management procedures. The IG Officer will, under the direction of the Head of Information Security, ensure that the attitudes and objectives of the IG Office strategic plan are translated into lasting and beneficial changes to the academic and business operations of University.
