Due to increased demand for our Information and Advice Line services here at Age UK, we are expanding our team and are now recruiting for passionate Information & Advice Advisors to join our new Essex team. This is a home-based role, within the Essex area. Due to the requirement for local knowledge and geographical awareness, this role would be ideally suited to a candidate within the Essex area. This vital service provides older people in need with much needed signposting and advice, which can possibly be life changing in some cases.

You’ll be helping our customers primarily by phone, email and letter but also with the possibility of face-to-face advice sessions – predominantly across the West Essex region, but extending to the rest of England as required.

We are in the height of a cost-of-living crisis, many older people in the UK are in desperate need of advice and support. As an Information & Advice Advisor, you will be playing an important role in this vital service; providing high quality, accurate, timely and relevant information and advice to older people, their families, carers and other professionals to other organisations and bodies that can help with specific needs.

This can be a challenging role, it’s very busy, with new enquiries coming in all the time but if you are resilient and passionate about helping others and are committed to providing an excellent customer service, this could be the role for you. We’ll provide you with all the training needed in order to be successful and make a positive impact to someone else’s life.

Please note, there will be confidential aspects to this role and you will be required to adhere to GDPR legislation and ensure any client information is not divulged to any unauthorized person.

There may also be the occasional requirement to travel which may involve overnight stays, as well as the ability to work flexible hours if required.

Must haves:

  • Providing information and advice on the telephone or face to face.
  • Local knowledge of the Essex area and its services.
  • Working with older people’s issues.
  • Working with social care/benefits.
  • Excellent active listening.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Competence in IT skills.
  • Ability to handle and present clearly and concisely large amounts of subject knowledge, often of a complex nature, both orally and in writing.
  • Accurate and attentive to detail.
  • Calm, empathic, compassionate.
  • Committed to providing a high quality service.
  • Committed to a team working approach.

  • Knowledge of support organisations in the Essex area.
