Advert Isle of Wight Infant Feeding Peer Support Worker (Part time x 16 hours) Are you passionate about supporting children and families and supporting the team to make a difference and increase the support available for parents in relation to infant feeding We are excited to be able to advertise new Family Centre Peer Support Worker roles within the IOW Community Early Help Services. These positions are available as a result of the IOW being awarded additional funding in order to go further under the Government Family Hub Framework specifically for Parenting Support and Home Learning Environment. Role and responsibilities: : Infant Feeding Peer Support Workers will include : To meet the requirements for and undertake the appropriate accredited training for Breastfeeding support and ensure the service offer is in line with the BFI standards To map the current services available for parents antenatally and postnatally and listen to the parents and partner agencies to understand the community needs and identify where communities would benefit from additional infant feeding services To establish Baby Feeding drop in sessions at Family Hubs/community venues for breastfeeding/infant feeding support and online to meet local needs (at times that work for the majority of service users) Identify, mentor and support the development of the breastfeeding volunteers to ensure parent are provided with the advice they need when they need it To be part of the wider team to support with the delivery of Breastfeeding and infant weaning workshops and be a source of information, advice and support about all services available See additional information for full details. Skills and abilities: In addition to the person specification in the generic job description the ideal candidate will have: Excellent communication skills and confidence to lead sessions and establish groups Lived experience as a parent who has breastfed for at least 6 months and willing to undertake accredited training The ability to work independently but also be a good team player to ensure the service meets the requirements of the project The ability to maintain records to ensure we evidence the impact of the project A natural curiosity and be able to identify when additional support is needed A commitment to Barnardo's basis and values. Working arrangements: This role is offered as part-time, within a flexible framework in order to meet the demands of the service outside standard working hours which may include evenings and weekends.
