What will you be doing as an Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate?

The role is a challenging, proactive and rewarding role in which you will work collaboratively with ‘floating support’ colleagues, the police, social care, housing and other agencies as part of a multi-agency partnership to advocate and support DA victims (irrespective of sex) and their children and keep them safe.

You will be working with high-risk DA at point of crisis. This will include telephone and face to face risk assessment and safety planning for both the victim and any children within the household. As well as providing crisis intervention and safety planning, you will also hold a caseload, which includes providing ongoing support and advocacy.

The role requires that professionals involved in the case receive written and verbal reports based on your analysis of risk, the facts of the case and your professional judgement as well as participation in meetings to advocate on the victim’s behalf, supporting them at court and signposting them to relevant and appropriate services.

About you

This is not a role for the faint-hearted, but for the right candidate it will be a rewarding role playing an active role in supporting some of our most vulnerable residents.

You will need to be organised and be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills, responding to victims of DA within 24 hours.

We are also looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • recent experience of working with high-risk DA victims is essential as well as an understanding of the dynamics, manifestations and impact of DA on victims and their children including intersectional and complex needs and barriers facing victims.
  • holds good working knowledge of the criminal, civil, housing and practical options available to safeguard victims and their children.
  • excellent communication written, verbal, listening skills are essential.
  • experience of supporting and advocating on behalf of DA victims.
  • has completed the CAADA/Safelives IDVA qualification.
