Job description

Immunisation Programme Assistant (Brighton) - Full time or part time, term time only, temporary contract for 4 months, September to December 2023.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Immunisation Programme Assistant to join the SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service.

The role requires core working hours of 8am-4pm, either three, four or five days per week, with flexibility at either end of the day for packing of vaccines or clinic cover on a rota basis. You will also cover one Saturday clinic.

The SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service vaccinates children aged 0-19 years in schools and clinics across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove.

This post will be based in Brighton but all team members support the whole of the SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service, so you must be a car owner/driver and be willing to travel daily to clinics and schools within Sussex.

The role will include providing clerical and clinical support in schools, bases, clinics and patients' homes. It is an exciting and varied role, working within a team of nurses, assistants and administrators to deliver vaccination programmes to school aged children.

The successful candidate will prepare the documentation and assist with the running of the vaccination sessions and be expected to accurately process the completed session paperwork.

During this busy flu vaccination period, they will also be involved with giving the flu nasal spray vaccine under supervision of a trained health professional. Full training will be given.

As the largest provider of community healthcare services in Sussex, our teams help people to plan for and manage changes to their health, supporting patients and their families to live more independently. We employ over 5,000 full and part time staff, and provide community services to a population of 1.3 million people.

Our vision is to provideexcellent care at the heart of the communityand achieving the highest level of service is our top priority.

We develop and nurture our staff, and recognise that they are our greatest asset.

We give them clear career pathways, support their wellbeing, recognise and value their diversity and provide them with the leadership, skills and knowledge they need to deliver the best care for our patients now and in the future.

Our innovative and dynamic Immunisation teams are dedicated to improving immunisation uptake and delivering the national evidence-based Schools’ Immunisation Programmes.

You will need to demonstrate your familiarity with Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience of data-inputting is preferable but training will be given. Our Service uses an online consent process so IT skills are vital.

The postholder will be required to fulfil reception duties at clinics and are often the first point of contact for patients and their families on the telephone, so an excellent telephone manner and verbal communication skills are important. The ability to communicate well and remain calm at busy school immunisation sessions is essential.

Our patients are our first priority and we strive to offer compassionate care, whilst also working quickly to vaccinate large numbers of children and young people each day. One aspect of the role will be to provide reassurance to children who are feeling anxious about having a vaccination, therefore, experience of working with children and young people would be an advantage.

We welcome applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and co-operatively with colleagues; both within their own team and the wider multidisciplinary teams across the whole SCFT area. We are looking for people who are motivated, conscientious and committed to supporting us to maintain high vaccination coverage across Sussex.

A full driving license and access to a car for work is essential for this role - please indicate this in your supporting information.
