Primary Job Purpose
Paralegals work parallel to trainees, who as an aggregate conduct to the vast majority of legal work in the firm. Paralegals maintain their own case load of files, individually, and are supervised on an ongoing basis, but are expected to be competent in taking the initiative to progress and complete their matters within stipulate the time frames. Paralegals are responsible for preparing applications, building evidence bundles and making representations on behalf of clients. They are also tasked with generating their own billings through sourcing clients.
Responsibilities and Duties
- To provide a casework and advocacy service to clients of the firm in all aspects of immigration law. This is largely casework based.
- To assist clients in liaising with other people and organizations to resolve their immigration problems where possible.
- To provide advice as part of our telephone advice service and to book the necessary follow up appointments.
- To take part in outreach work to solicit new clients in order to generate billings.
- To ensure prompt billings on files.
- Manage a caseload of files independently.
- To liaise and develop referral systems with current and potential client groups and organizations.
- Work flexibly with other to ensure other staff to ensure the effective work of the firm including covering for colleagues where necessary.
- Contribute to the administration of the office to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the firm.
- Submit applications in for visas and leave in all areas of immigration law
- Lodging appeal notices and grounds
- Applications for bail
- Settlement applications
- Business Immigration applications
- Asylum Immigration applications
- Representing clients in correspondence with UKVI and at UKVI interviews
- To keep up to date the changes in relevant legislation
- To undertake such training as is necessary as to maintain standards required to at least level 2 SRA casework standard, or equivalent OISC standard.
Requirements and Qualifications
- At least 1 year experience in Immigration Law
- Displays professionalism, quality service and a “can do” attitude to internal members/departments of the Firm as well as external clients as vendors
- Is able to learn procedural and processing requirements for various visa types
- Builds knowledge of Firm and client processes
- Demonstrates attention to detail and achieves high level of productivity
- Multitask in a fast-paced environment with competing demands
- Meets assigned deadlines and communicates case progress/status/issues to supervisors
- Demonstrates flexibility and initiative regarding assignments for self and team
- Contributes to positive work environment
- Develops strong working relationship with team members and gains their confidence through displaying professionalism and efficiency in all communications
- Demonstrates professionalism and confidence in all communications with their team and well as accuracy and proficiency in written communications
- Learn from both positive and negative experiences and adapts accordingly

Salary: £20,000.00-£24,000.00 per year
