Imam & Education Leader at EIC
Job Title: Imam & Education Leader – European Islamic Centre, UK.
Tenure: Annual renewable
Salary package: Competitive salary Circa £31,200-£36,590 Negotiable dependent on qualifications and experience.
Leave entitlement: 30 working days per Annum
Hours of work: 38 hours per week, including any emergency issues in the community.
Position Summary
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and charismatic Imam & Education Lead to provide Islamic religious guidance, practices, and leadership to the Muslim community in Oldham
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in educational programs and matters at the centre.
- Provide Quran and Hadith studies, Seerah and Fiqh lessons, and other Islamic topics to increase knowledge and provide for spiritual growth of community members.
- Promote consistent high standards of teaching, learning and outcomes for learners.
- Develop and implement educational and extracurricular programs for the youth.
- Develop and implement educational program for new Muslims.
- Lead the five daily prayers as and when needed in absence of main Imam.
- Give the Khutbah and lead prayer for Jummah on a rota basis .
- Lead Eid Prayers and deliver Khutbah.
- Conduct matrimonial services in accordance with UK and Islamic law and offer pre-marital and marital counselling and conflict resolution.
- Offer Islamic family and youth counselling and guidance as needed.
- Participate in the community activities that further good interfaith and public relations for Islam and Muslims.
- Play an active role in mosque open days and school, public workers, and institute visits to the Centre.
- Work with management committee on fundraising programs for the community and the Centre as needed.
- Provide consultation to the Committee on religious matters, community issues, and Centre activities as requested.
- Represent the EIC at local community forums and strategic meetings.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and convenient office hours at the Centre for community members to seek religious Counsel and guidance.
- To reply to Q&A on Centre website and deal with queries and emails.
- Interact with all persons and organizations, Muslim and Non-Muslim, in a manner that reflects positively on Islam, Muslims, and the EIC.
- Continually strive and conduct oneself in ways that foster unity and inclusiveness among all community members and promote broad participation in Islamic and community activities.
- Lead by example to prevent discrimination on any basis including but not limited to school of thought, sex, race, nationality, ethnic origin, citizenship, political affiliation, or economic status.
- Conduct oneself in a dignified manner, commensurate with the teachings of Islam.
- Familiarize himself with UKIM policies and procedures and practices.
- Promote new courses and presentations to the wider community.
- Provide funeral services and guidance and assist the committee/volunteers with body preparation and burial as needed.
Essential Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Islamic Studies or related field from an accredited higher education institution.
- Fluency in English (Spoken and written).
- Fluency in Arabic (Spoken and written).
- Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic Sharia.
- Memorised the Qur'an, preferably a Hafiz of Qur’an.
- Practical experience as an Imam or Assistant Imam, ideally in the UK.
- Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
- Willingness to supervise the madrasa team as well as be supervised by the management committee.
- Experience in Islamic family and youth counselling or is willing to undergo training.
- Experience in pre-marital and marital counselling or is willing to undergo training.
- Experience in teaching and explaining Islam to Non-Muslims.
