The SDA has an exciting career opportunity for an experienced and motivated Human Factors Integration (HFI) specialist to join our team. In joining us, you will integrate with highly skilled professionals to support some of largest and most complex engineering programmes in the world. You will work at the forefront of marine technology to oversee unique engineering challenges, whilst contributing to project success and providing support to the Royal Navy.
As an integrated HFI specialist and SDA representative, you’ll have the opportunity to act as the focal point on matters relating to human factors elements of submarine design and lead on the development of requirements within your role. Using your expertise, you will ensure our designs receive adequate consideration of the crews on board. You will engage with delivery projects across wider SDA teams to provide specialist HFI insight to the submarine enterprise. You will be responsible for key deliverables and will interface as intelligent customer with our prime contractors, to ensure human integration in our submarines surpass ethical and contractual requirements.

Due to the nature of this work, working with stakeholders is critical to success. You will therefore be required to uphold strong and productive relationships and provide subject matter expert advice to SDA teams and our contractors. You will be inducted into a hybrid working environment and occasional travel between sites may be required. Your primary place of work will be one of the following four locations:

Responsibilities
· Ensure that HFI activities are appropriately planned and conducted in accordance with plans
· Establish and run an HFI Working Group in accordance with HFI focus
· Own and maintain HFI Risks Assumptions Issues Dependencies Opportunities and ensure that the HFI Considerations are addressed
· Ensure stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts and suitably qualified HFI personnel are involved in acceptance of all HFI aspects of solutions
· Review Human Factors elements of the project and design documentation
· Monitor, review and assure Solution Providers’ HFI activities and deliverables, and attending key HFI activities and meetings as required
· Provide ad-hoc Human Factors advice to project team
· Ensure coordination with other disciplines related to HFI; for example, Safety, Training, Integrated Logistics Support and Systems Engineering
· Ensure that a User Centred Design approach is applied to the project
· Ensure that all HFI domains are considered throughout the project
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
· Chartered/Incorporated Engineer, member of a relevant Professional Engineering/Science Institute (or equivalent body) or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
· Relevant Level 4 (HNC or higher) qualification or equivalent experience
· Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
· Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches
