Starting Salary: £30,151 with the opportunity to progress to a maximum of £32,909 (pro rata for part-time)
Hours: 37 per week

Hertfordshire County Council’s (HCC) Human Resources department is looking for an organised, professional and friendly HR professional to join the team responsible for advising over 8,000 managers and employees on HR Policy and Procedure.

The HR Service Desk comprises of four HR Officers and is managed by two Senior HR Officers (job sharing). The HR Officers are responsible for advising managers and employees from all council departments on a wide range of informal employee relations matters including Ill Health, Discipline, Performance, Probation and Grievance.
As a HR Officer in this team, you will own your own queries and will work to provide timely, professional, and accurate HR advice to your customers. Given the size and scale of HCC, your customers will include managers and employees across many sectors including social work, the fire service, law and finance.
The HR Officers that work within the HR Service Desk must be able to work comfortably within a fast-paced environment. The huge range of customers and HR issues that may present themselves mean that the ability to think on your feet whilst remaining calm and professional is critical. That said, the team are incredibly supportive and any queries that are high risk or complex will be managed with the support of your manager and peers.
No two days are the same on the HR Service Desk. The role is unique in that it works with every single discipline within the HR profession and therefore offers unparalleled learning and development opportunities. You will become a subject matter expert in advising on the informal side of all employee relations matters.
The role will largely be based from home with the opportunity to come to County Hall in Hertford to spend time together as a team and collaborate.
- Understanding of Employee Relations, familiarity with HR policies and procedures, and experience of advising managers and employees
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff at all levels, both verbally and in writing
- A team player who works collaboratively with colleagues
- Ability to build relationships and influence managers, using challenge when appropriate
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, partners and colleagues, ensuring the customer journey is paramount
- A positive approach to change
- Ability to prioritise and deliver under pressure
- A customer and solution focussed approach
- An understanding of the wide range of customers using the HR Service Desk
- Confident in using Microsoft Office packages and other databases.
