About the Role

Base Location: Perth (We would expect the successful candidate to be in the Perth Office for 2 to 3 days per week)

Salary: £72,500 - £108,700 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We have a very exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced HR professional. We are looking for a HR Service Centre Manager to ensure that not only are we effectively offering employment to, but ensuring that we are providing the support while onboarding our new employees too. This role also looks after the entire employee lifecycle in a way that delivers our Employee Value proposition and supports SSE’s front-line businesses in delivering their growth targets.

SSE’s strategy is very clear and will deliver growth to increase capability and capacity as part of our Net Zero Acceleration Plan (NZAP). To help achieve this, the workforce will increase by approximately 1000 new heads each year for the next few years.

  • Operational Delivery: Lead the HR Service Centre team to ensure the effective delivery of first point contact for all manager and employee requests for guidance on HR policy and process and the provision of HR administrative services covering the full employee life cycle from offer of employment to leaving the company including the administration of pay reviews and provisioning of benefits
  • Provision of employment and benefits policy and process advice: The Head of HR Service Centre must ensure that the teams are equipped with Specialist HR and Benefits Knowledge to give support, advice and procedural guidance which remains compliant with legislation and policies whilst recognising the need to balance this with the operational needs of the business. You will be expected to be able to provide guidance to the teams in relation to escalated issues and to bring relevant stakeholders together to solve one-off issues as they occur.
  • Continuous Improvement: In a busy operational area there is a constant need for continuous improvement in all that we do in order to better support Business goals.
  • Compliance: There is a strong focus on compliance in terms of the handling and storage of employee information, the delivery of all Subject Access requests in relation to GDPR legislation and the Verification and Vetting of new employees. You will be expected to actively monitor and ensure compliance standards are being met and to support any internal or external audits as required.
  • Provision of one-off project support services to the business: Provide a one-off support service to HRBPs and/or senior leaders in the business to support them in meeting their business objectives whether that’s through supporting the roll out of a major new policy, process or benefit or ensuring that major business changes are supported by the appropriate administrative processes e.g. acquisitions, disposals, restructures.
  • HR Data and Reporting: This role is responsible for ensuring that HR Leadership Team understands the people data and ensures that data quality and integrity are maintained to allow the production of meaningful and accurate analytics by the HR Reporting Team and will work with the HR Reporting Team as required to provision reports for use by the HR Services teams and/or the business areas they support.
  • People Leadership: Actively develop and coach Team Managers to ensure they manage and develop their people effectively, promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning and are equipped and motivated to deliver a high-quality service to all line managers and employees across every business within SSE.
  • Management of External Suppliers: Responsible for managing external contracts with several major suppliers in areas such as Benefits, Private Healthcare, Occupational Health, employee counselling and physio services, drug and alcohol testing and Verification and Vetting Services.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Previous experience of working at management level specifically within HR, with a good understanding of all HR functions and interdependencies as well as an awareness of key employment policies and practices.
  • You will be a strong people leader with excellent collaboration, inclusion, coaching and facilitation skills.
  • You will be require to have a strong business process and continuous improvement focus.
  • You will need to have previous experience of managing and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including senior line managers and HR Business Partners.
  • You will be confident in analysing statistical data and able to interpret and present a range of data, how it can be used to benefit business decision making and to support and drive change within the business.
  • You will have proven track record of managing priorities to tight deadlines and high standards.
  • You will ideally be digitally aware with the ability to implement new digital processes to support efficiency and customer service.
  • You will ideally have experience of procuring and managing external suppliers.
