Job description

Old Sturbridge Village is currently seeking a highly motivated Human Resources Generalist to support all day-to-day aspects of the Human Resources Operation as well as handle payroll for Old Sturbridge, Inc. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to experience an Human Resources department in a fast paced environment which will support the various entities we support – Old Sturbridge Village Museum, Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, Worcester Cultural Academy Charter Public School, and Coggeshall Farm Museum.

This person will provide perspective and consultation on comprehensive HR policy, programs and processes and consult on HR services ensuring that leaders have considered all appropriate options. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Process multiple payrolls for exempt and non-exempt employees for Old Sturbridge Inc. (Old Sturbridge Village, Old Sturbridge Academy, Worcester Cultural Academy and Coggeshall Farm).
  • Conduct background checks for all new hires.
  • Provide comprehensive onboarding to new employees. Provide benefits counseling and review policies and procedures.
  • Manage COBRA benefits and ensures timely and accurate enrollments, terminations and invoicing.
  • Process and reconcile group insurance invoices (e.g., health, dental, life, disability, unemployment).
  • Administer Family Medical Leaves and Workers’ Compensation document preparation. Maintain and track leaves.
  • Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Support HR Director during annual projects such as open enrollment or annual reviews. As necessary, complete compensation surveys.
  • Participate in recruitment management – assist hiring managers with search plans, screen candidates, interview and conduct reference checks.
  • Assist the HR Director in compliance and policy research and development. Update policies, procedures and handbook.
  • Keep confidential employee information current; design and run reports using HRIS and Excel. Ensure data integrity.
  • Participate in a range of HR initiatives such as employee engagement, diversity, recognition, and training and development.
  • Responsible for producing communications to staff on various HR initiatives such as, 403(b), Open Enrollment, compliance and other HR events.
  • Provide backup support to payroll processing as needed.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three of five years of related experience or equivalent experience or equivalent experience. Non-profit or school experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • A solid understanding of human resources (i.e., recruiting, hiring, policies, practices, performance appraisals, benefits, terminations, etc).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with Human Capital Management Systems (I.e.Paychex).
  • Must be well organized and able to multi-task, follow instructions, and prioritize assignments.
  • Work collaborative as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Must be accurate, detail oriented and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Must have the ability to work with all levels within the organization including management, supervisors and employees.
