Summary:
Supports the community/program leadership through the implementation and administration of Human Resources functions and assists in carrying out policies and procedures relating to all phases of Human Resource activities at an LSS community or program. The HR Coordinator upholds the LSS mission of “Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest”, core values and code of conduct.
Responsibilities:
- Recruits, interviews and refers qualified applicants to hiring managers; Trains hiring managers on effective and legal hiring practices; conducts reference checks and confers with managers on appropriate hiring rates of pay.
- Conducts new employee orientation program and follow-up. Assists in the development and coordination of continuing education for the community/program based upon needs. Provides support with tracking training completion, as well as ongoing assessment of compliance and effectiveness.
- Conducts exit interviews and provides feedback to leadership with suggestions for appropriate changes.
- Sets up and maintains employee files and keeps history of status changes.
- Acts as liaison for employee benefits and coordinates employee benefit enrollments and changes, educating staff and answering benefit questions.
- Provides assistance to the HR Director or HR Manager, as they provide support and guidance to leadership for employee relations issues.
- Responds to Unemployment Compensation claims by investigating circumstances and preparing documentation.
May hold the responsibility of coordinating their Community’s volunteer program in conjunction with a designated member of the LSS Volunteer and Community Engagement team, which may include determining volunteer needs, onboarding and orientation, record-keeping, evaluation and retention of the volunteers.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
- Knowledge of recruitment, benefits, compensation, employee relations and training
- Prior Human Resources experience preferred
- Computer Operations: basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, the ability to conduct training, high degree of professionalism and objectivity.
Other Qualifications:
Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) requires drivers of licensed company vehicles and those using their own vehicles for business purposes have the appropriate driver’s license, insurance coverage, and meet the auto liability carrier’s driver’s criteria.

The employee frequently is required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop. Lifting up to 30 pounds. Pushing/pulling 100 lbs. on wheels. This role may require driving to offsite meetings, depending upon the needs of each individual community/program. A well-lighted and ventilated working area that has its own temperature control system (air conditioning and heat). The work will have some short notice requests, timelines for completion of tasks or reports and some major projects extending over months. Minimal exposure to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens. Minimal exposure to chemicals and hazardous waste. Minimal exposure to outside weather conditions.
