We are looking for an HR Assistant to join our Bristol team!
Location: Our amazing central Bristol office - due to the nature of this role there is limited opportunity for hybrid/home working
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Salary: Up to £30,000 pa, if you have all the skills & experience we are looking for. Plus up to 10% annual company bonus.

The Opportunity
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and ambitious HR Assistant for a role which offers the chance to unlock your potential and make a real impact whilst developing your career within a growing team & thriving business.
As the newest member of our People & Talent team, you will play a key role in supporting various processes and projects that help support our employees throughout the entire organisation.
You will be responsible for maintaining HR records, assisting with recruitment, and onboarding processes, and ensuring smooth day-to-day HR operations. Alongside business-as-usual activities there will be plenty of exciting opportunities to collaborate and even lead on including; continuous improvement projects, policies and initiatives that nurture a positive company culture and attract the top talent.
Responsibilities
We work in an exciting and dynamic environment where every day is likely to be a little different but some of the main responsibilities in this role will include:
- Support the upkeep of HR-related systems ensuring data is kept up to date & stored appropriately
- Coordinate L&D activities ensuring compliance & training records are kept up-to-date
- Manage HR mailboxes & level 1 enquiries ensuring timely, accurate responses or escalation where required
- Support the Talent Acquisition Managers throughout the recruitment lifecycle from posting the job advert through to offer
- Work closely with the HR Advisor to onboard new starters, completing reference checks, arrange equipment and preparing starting itineraries
- Provide employees with guidance on policies and procedures, acting as a knowledgeable point of contact
- Assist with event planning, training events & culture activities
- Support with any reporting or data collation for the People function
- Get involved with HR activities across the employee lifecycle providing professional & timely support
- Collaborate on ad hoc People Team projects
About you & what you will bring
We’re looking for an HR Assistant who has what it takes to make a real impact in our growing business and help us achieve our ambitious and exciting plans! If you have these skills and experience, then this could be you:
- Previous experience within an HR support/administrative role is highly desirable
- CIPD Level 3, or working towards, is desirable
- A curious mindset and proactive problem solver with a passion for proposing solutions and ideas
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling sensitive data
- Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, empathy & discretion
- Well-developed communication skills (both verbal & written) enabling strong working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
- Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across diverse employee groups Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems

- CCAT Assessment – The Cognitive Criteria Aptitude test will include questions on verbal, numerical and spatial reasoning.
- A short 20-minute phone screen with our HR partner. We will tell you more about our role, the team and business, and allow us to learn more about you, why you applied, and what you can bring to Vaarst. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you have.
- A 1-hour interview with our Director of People & Talent. This part of the process allows you to get a real feel for the work the team is doing and allows us to learn more about your skillsets. Again, you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you have.
- Offer! If you are successful in the process, we will follow up with an offer for the role.
