Sitting across two of our three business lines; Civil and Defence, at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993 with a workforce of cira 400 employees, the site offers a full range of capabilities including design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor.
Our customer base includes Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo.
Job Summary
Joining the world’s leading tier one aerospace supplier of systems and components, this opening gives you the opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ in combining the role of HR Apprentice with online study, towards achieving the nationally accredited Level 3 CIPD certification.
As a HR Apprentice, based at our Luton facility, you’ll be working closely with the HR Manager and HR Business Partners in providing administration and operations support across the employee lifecycle for circa 400 employees.
What You'll be Doing
Sitting across both our Civil and Defence business lines, this apprenticeship will provide you with development and training across a wide range of business knowledge, skills and behaviours to include but not limited to:
- Drafting employment changes letters and administering changes across HR Systems
- The handling of all off boarding administration
- Administration of all invoices
- Maintaining records on electronic HRMS including setting up new starters and any employee changes
- Updating and tracking all HR databases
- Coordinating training and development events including managing participant invitations, booking meeting rooms and monitoring participant attendance
- General scanning and filing material in line with data protection and document retention details
- Supporting local initiatives and projects to raise employee engagement and help make us a Great Place to Work.
- Any other general administrative assistance to team members
What You'll Get
You’ll get all the support and guidance you need to help you achieve your apprenticeship, joining a structured 18 month programme working closely with both GKN Aerospace and our service provider.
Once you are enrolled, you will utilise a dynamic combination of learning online, in person and via a series of webinars and 121 workshops. As part of your programme you will have access to an online learning programme and an E-portfolio to track your progression, capture evidence, build your professional portfolio and log your off-the-job learning. To support you with your learning you’ll be assigned a mentor who will work closely with you to ensure your learning and achievement of your apprenticeship qualification.
What You'll Need
In order to be considered for this opportunity you will require the following:
- GCSE Grade 4 or C and above in Maths, English and at least 2 other subjects.

- Fully competent in Microsoft packages; including Word and Excel
- Self-assured to take your own initiative
- Honesty, Integrity and Resilience
- Passion for expanding HR knowledge and competencies
- Confident communicator; with a high level of integrity
Desirable:
- Previous HR experience
- CIPD Level 3
- Previous experience working in a fast paced environment
