JOB DESCRIPTION
HOUSEKEEPER (full-time)
A Housekeeper at Shawnigan Lake School is a crucial member of the operations team who works to ensure the cleanliness, health, safety, and aesthetics of a campus with over 800 staff, students, and visitors. For those Housekeepers assigned to a student residence, a pastoral care function adds a critical component to their role.
This is a full-time opportunity. We offer a salary equivalent to $21 per hour, plus a full benefits package, a flexible work environment, and a nurturing, family-friendly workplace.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
Custodial
· Maintain the cleanliness of each area of the student residence, including common areas, hallways, student rooms, kitchen, staircases, cleaning supply areas, and washrooms
· Monitor, retrieve, and distribute/dispose of waste and recyclables daily
· Make up beds, change linens, and tidy rooms, as required
· Repair and clean curtains and blinds
· Assist with sending and receiving laundry, sort, wash, fold, and put away laundry
· Distribute linen, towels, and supplies
· Manage inventory, restock house custodial supplies and Replenish dispensers, toilet paper, soap, and hand towels
· Regularly inspect and turn matrasses
· Liaise with House Director(s) daily on internal housekeeping issues
· Monitor and report damage, maintenance & repair issues, and safety hazards
· Complete term start-up and year end dormitory evaluations
· Frequently review WHMIS documentation for applicable cleaning supplies
· Other duties as assigned
Pastoral
· Support the House Director(s) in the implementation of directives and strict adherence to House policies, rules, and protocols
· Provide a compassionate and authentic means of support for each student in the house while modelling the tone and values of Shawnigan
· Set an exemplary standard of presentation, hygiene, and respect, in addition to personal and professional conduct
· Carefully balance student confidences with a duty maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the House
· Supervise students during non-timetabled time when present in the House
· Report all concerns regarding the physical and mental wellbeing of students to the House Director(s)
· Take part in House activities, as requested by House Director(s)
· Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma or equivalency preferred
· Previous experience working with children, grades 8 – 12
· Experienced with the use of cleaning and sanitation products, procedures, and techniques
· Working knowledge of common mechanized cleaning equipment
· Willing to perform manual tasks through long periods of standing, lifting, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and grasping
· Willing to perform repetitive motions (e.g. vacuuming, mopping) and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads up to 30 lbs.
· Professionalism at all times in all interactions with students, families, visitors, and colleagues
· Self-directed, independent, and extremely organized
· Good communication skills that include the ability to deal professionally with a wide range of people
· Self-motivated, with the ability to deal with minor problems or variances to routine
· Able to use discretion and maintain strict confidentiality
· Able to work without supervisory assistance, while knowing the appropriate time to ask for help
· Proven record of professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and dependability
