Purpose of Post:
1. To be an inspirational leader and to ensure the efficient running of the Room through the on-going cycle of evaluation, planning, preparation, organisation and monitoring.
2. To take an active role within the management team

Responsibilities:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be an excellent role model, lead a team and support colleagues by undertaking own duties diligently, maintaining good communication, sharing ideas and being professional and respectful.
  • To exercise a general duty of care for colleagues and to be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, students and volunteers under the supervision.
  • To have a good understanding of all Cybertots policies and procedures and ensure they are followed by everyone in the team including students and volunteers.
  • To manage staff effectively, working in partnership with the Deputy Manager/Manager and other Room Leaders in ensuring correct ratios are maintained throughout the Nursery.
  • To oversee the Room planning, Health and Safety records and individual record keeping of each key person in the Room.
  • To ensure all parents/carers in the Room are well informed of their children’s progress and are always made to feel welcome in the Nursery.
  • To assist the Deputy Manager/Manager in inducting new members of staff and appointing a mentor for the duration of their probationary period.
  • To supervise, direct, support and be a good role model for nursery assistants, apprentices, work placement students and volunteers.
  • To carry out regular room and peer observations, and to assist the Deputy Manager/Manager in carrying out staff appraisals, supervisions and performance reviews.
  • To ensure transitions from home to nursery are smooth by liaising with the family and other professionals, where appropriate, appointing a key person, organising home visits and settling in sessions.
  • To ensure transitions from room to room are smooth by actively communicating with the Room Leader of the ‘feeding’ or ‘receiving’ room, liaising with the family and other professionals, where appropriate, making all necessary arrangements to welcome the child (e.g. name pegs) and ensuring the Transition form is completed at least two weeks before the first settling in session.
  • To assist the Deputy Manager/Manager in organising and to attend staff meetings, staff training days and training courses; to disseminate the findings to the team and implement what is learnt.
  • To assist the Deputy Manager/Manager in organising parents evenings, coffee mornings and family events.
  • To ensure the Room meets the needs of children who might have additional requirements and make reasonable adjustments.
  • To act appropriately in an emergency situation, ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of children is maintained at all times.
