Job description
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates to join our on-site horticultural team at Muddy Trowel on a full time basis. We deliver hundreds (soon to be thousands!) of plants, pots and kits to customers every week, and you will be a key part of the team responsible for making that happen.
You will report into our Head of Plants & Operations, working closely with operations and the daily production team on site. Ideal candidates will have a horticultural qualification, with good understanding of different plant types, care requirements, general horticultural tasks and be keen to learn! You’ll also need a full UK Driving License and be prepared to drive a small van to our fabulous plant nurseries to collect stock on a weekly basis.
You will be given training on how to pick, prepare and plant Muddy Trowel products to ensure the products going out to customers are of the highest standard.
Core duties (include but are not limited to):
- Looking after a wide variety of plant stock at our nursery, including pruning, feeding, potting up & watering.
- Preparing the plants in our orders ready for delivery multiple times a week.
- Organising our polytunnel and outdoor plant nursery to keep stock in the correct order and looking neat and tidy, including stock takes.
- Assisting in the management of plant health including pest & disease control.
- Helping to receive inbound deliveries of plants and other gardening related products such as pots and tools, and making sure they are in acceptable condition.
- Driving a small size van to collect plant stock from our various different nurseries (furthest distance 1.5hours approx)
- Support in the day to day production and preparation of customer orders.
- Assisting in the selection of plant/product ranges from time to time.
- Assisting with other operational & business tasks when required.

- Highly reliable - Our customers expect a high standard of service and we pride ourselves on being consistent and timely.
- Quick learner - You should be able to pick up new things quickly, and (with training) understand our products and processes
- Adaptable - We are a fast-growing company, and so your days may vary depending on the week’s priorities - you should be able to adapt to varying workloads and a range of different tasks.
- Interest in plants & the outdoors - Your job will be based in our polytunnel and nursery, so being comfortable working outdoors and with plants is a must!
- Fair level of physical fitness - this job will require you to be on your feet most of the day, and is fairly physical in nature (lifting bags of compost, planting and gardening, carrying pots, etc).
About the role
- We are looking for candidates who can commit to a minimum of 5 days per week (Likely Wednesday & Sunday days off each week) from 8:30am - 5:30pm.

- Able to start ASAP.
- Based at our nursery location near Hemel Hempstead (HP3 0NG).
