Sonora Gardeners have a passion for excellence in guest service and a strong background in horticulture. This position is responsible for maintaining the gardens and grounds to a high aesthetic level throughout Sonora Resort. Main tasks include watering, weeding, raking, lawn care, tending to a conservatory of tropical plants and working on small landscaping projects. They will provide clientele with a superior resort experience by ensuring the resort grounds are in excellent condition and upholding Sonora’s service standards in all guest interactions.
Job Duties
- Demonstrate desired service behaviors in accordance with Relais and Chateaux expectations.
- Follow watering schedule for hanging baskets, potted plants, garden beds and shrubs.
- Maintain soil and plants: rake, remove debris and weeds, replace plants as directed.
- Trim hedges and trees as required.
- Weeding Sonora’s garden beds, prioritizing high guest traffic or high visibility areas.
- Maintain roads and pathways; rake and smooth ditches, cover border areas with topsoil, plant and maintain grass where appropriate
- Maintain conservatory plants under the direction of the Head Gardener, ensuring this guest area is clean, organized and ready for guest use.
- Assist with floral arrangement for resort use as directed.
- Maintain tools and ensure equipment is in good order.
- Will occasionally assist with lawn care – mowing, fertilizing, line trimming etc.
- Assist with maintenance or other departments as requested by direct manager.
- Ensure effective working relationships and clear communication is maintained with all colleagues, supervisors and departments.
- Ensure that all equipment, fixtures, and furniture of the department are kept in the best repair possible and are used in a safe and proper manner in coordination with the Maintenance Manager.
- Drive small vehicles around the resort.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and fluent in English. Second languages are an asset.
- One (1) year of experience in a similar role.
- Thorough understanding of the operations of gardening and horticulture; experience in a live-in resort environment is preferred.
- Able to safely operate power equipment such as line trimmers, hedge trimmers, chain saws and blowers an asset.
- High School Diploma required. Any additional education or experience in the Hospitality, Tourism, or related fields would be an asset.
- Must be fluent in English, second language an asset.
- First Aid & AED certificates are an asset.
- Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team or independently with minimum supervision.

Additional Information
This is a seasonal position that works on site at the Resort in shift work rotations. Seeking a start date as soon as possible.

- Shift work is required from April until October; comprised of 10 - 20 working days and 4 non-working working days, subject to change during peak season; employees are expected to be flexible in their scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
- Water taxi transportation is provided to and from Campbell River for scheduled work shifts
- Staff are required to leave the resort on their scheduled non-working days and are responsible for securing further transportation and accommodation thereafter.
