Job description
We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to join our team of horticultural technicians within our production department. The successful candidate will be trained to work in all areas of production throughout the nursery.
Hours of work:
39.25 hours per week (Temporary contract until end of May 2024)
· 0800 – 1645 Monday – Thursday
· 0800 – 1600 Friday
Additional overtime including working some weekends may also be available during busy periods and may be expected by mutual agreement during peak periods.
The Job Role:
As a Horticultural Technician, your role within the company will assist in the production of plant material throughout the production process which includes maintenance, care, physical handling, watering, feeding, quality checks and ultimately output to the customer whether internal or external.
The successful candidate will be trained to work in all areas of production throughout the nursery – from potting the seeds that arrive to when they are despatched, with the emphasis on taking and inserting cuttings and maintaining and preparing plants ready for despatch.
We pride ourselves in moving staff throughout departments to keep the day to day work interesting and help each member develop a variety of skills. Amongst other skills, the successful candidate will be trained to:
· Pot, trim and weed plants
· Cut, insert, and maintain cuttings in our propagation area
· Maintain plants in production are whilst they develop
· Collate and despatch plant orders
· Picking up plants/move trolleys
· Potting
· Despatch
As a Horticultural Technician, you will be part of a dedicated team, working to achieve the companies mission statement with an emphasis on innovation, continuous improvement, and personal development. The successful candidate should primarily be enthusiastic, consistent in their approach and willing to learn in a vibrant glasshouse production environment with high quality output.
For clarity, this role is not in a garden centre and is not customer facing. You will be working in our plant growing areas to include polytunnels and glasshouses.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
· Confident in working to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to work within a team as well as individually
· Physical stamina and a good level of fitness (you may be required to stand for long periods of time-sometimes entire shifts, lift packages or materials and/or transport materials around the nursery)
· Excellent English verbal and literacy skills
· Clean driver’s license
Previous experience working within a horticultural production environment would be beneficial but not essential and other production manufacturing experience can also be of benefit.
You will need to be able to work in a fast paced, team environment, understand set procedures and target goals set, and also have close attention to detail whist carrying out some repetitive tasks.
The successful candidate would ideally be looking for career progression opportunities as we would like the candidate to eventually grow their role to comprise leadership responsibilities, such as supervisor or management aspects.
