About the roleCan you help our homeless households overcome the barriers to keeping their current home or finding a new one?
West Northamptonshire Council has an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our Northampton Housing Options service.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team of Homelessness Assessment Officers on a full-time, permanent basis.

What will you be doing?Can you work collaboratively with homeless households to remove any barriers to their rehousing and to review and update their personalised housing plan on a regular basis.
Can you minimise the amount of time that homeless households spend in temporary accommodation, ensuring they actively considering all of their housing options?
Can you conduct casework, making methodical and appropriate enquiries to confirm eligibility for housing assistance, homelessness and priority need, and assess the applicant’s role in the events which lead to them losing their home?
Can you work proactively with social and health services, support agencies and other statutory and non-statutory bodies to produce sustainable outcomes for families and vulnerable adults?
Do you ensure that service delivery is always well co-ordinated and service-users are kept updated? Are you a high achiever who relishes a challenge?

Based in The Guildhall in the heart of Northampton’s cultural quarter, the Northampton Housing Options Service serves a large and diverse community.
About youTo meet the requirements of this challenging and exciting role, you will:
- Be able to work in a fast-paced, demanding, front-line, people-focused service.
- Have excellent negotiating and advocacy skills.
- Have a strong understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act and the duties it places on housing authorities.
- Be able to understand, interpret and apply statutory legislation and related case-law.
- be organised and methodical with an interest in housing and homelessness, a strong team ethos and a desire to make a positive difference.

The council is in the process of implementing a new pay structure and terms and conditions which will be applicable to this role. The outcome could result in a future variation to the advertised salary, and this will be discussed at interview.
