We are eager to consider applications from individuals who, possibly, do not currently reach the language level of the post, but the successful applicant would be required to commit to either learn, or develop language skills to the required level within a reasonable timescale. Listening and Speaking - Intermediate Level
Able to maintain a fluent conversation on a number of various everyday subjects, and discuss cases involving the field of work.Able to follow a discussion in Welsh, in Clear Welsh, on familiar matters relating to the post. Able to contribute to the conversation and answer questions.
Reading and Understanding - Intermediate Level
Understand everyday correspondence on familiar issues at work.Understand longer reports in Clear Welsh and be able to pick up the main points. (help may be required with the vocabulary).
Writing - Intermediate Level
Able to write letters for a specific purpose, e-mails and short reports in Welsh and English, using vocabulary and simple phrases that are familiar to the field of work. (They will need to be checked before being sent out).
Purpose of the post
- Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
- Support and encourage service users to be as independent as possible by assisting the individual their families and carers with tasks they cannot undertake or are finding it difficult to do on their own.To ensure that the physical and emotional wellbeing of service users are met by implementing the specific Service User Plan.This is done by following all guidelines and policies as well as compliance with Gwynedd Council and the relevant National Standards and Regulations of the Care Act 2000.
Responsibility for functions
- Respect and use appropriately any tools and equipment required to fulfill your duties
- Notify your Line Manager and / or the person responsible for the equipment as soon as possible of any defect therein, or the lack of services (water, electricity, gas etc.
- Ensure appropriate management of service users property e.g. medication and cash.
Main duties
- To ensure and respect the dignity and independence of service users through good care practices and in accordance with Gwynedd Council Policy National Standards and Regulations of the Care Act 2000
- To provide support and carry out specific tasks in accordance with the Individual Care Plan e.g. personal care
- To be sensitive to the need to respect the rights, beliefs and preferences of the individual at all times.
- To behave professionally at all times and comply with the appropriate dress code
- To communicate effectively with service users, families, staff and other agencies and respect confidentiality at all times.
- To be part of the planning, preparation, implementation and review of the Service User Plan.
- To act as a key worker if applicable for a set number of service users and attend review meetings and case conferences of those service users and contribute written and verbal report.
- To record information in documents and service user's files on a daily basis.
- To undertake cleaning and laundry duties
- To prepare meals and drinks as required and serve meals.
- To comply fully with Gwynedd Council's Medication Code..
- To commit to follow a training programme in accordance with the National Requirements, and accept responsibility for your professional development.
- To qualify to QCF 2/or equivalent standard within a specified timetable.
- To attend meetings as directed by Line Manager
- To attend Supervision and Evaluation sessions.
- To have knowledge and implement policies, procedures and guidelines on good practice. .
- To comply with all health and safety policies of the department. Each employee has a responsibility for looking after their own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
- To register with the Care Council in accordance with national guidelines.
- To comply with the requirements of the Protection of Vulnerable Adults policy and guidelines Wales.
- Possess a valid driving license and use of vehicle and comply with Gwynedd Council Travelling policy
- Responsibility for self-development.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
- Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
- Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
- Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
- Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special circumstances
- Need to work unsociable hours over seven days on a rota basis. This will involve bank holiday and weekends as necessary.
- Dealing with individuals' personal funds in accordance with a care plan or Gwynedd Council's financial transactions guidelines
- At times there may be a need for the post holder to undertake sleep-in duties
