An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health Nurse to join the Healthcare team at HMP Leicester
Working within the Team at HMP Leicester will give you the opportunity to make a real difference to a group of people who traditionally have high psychiatric and social morbidity but have also faced multiple barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare.
This role is for registered nurses, with NMC registration, who wish to pursue a career within Offender Health.
You should be enthusiastic, motivated, patient focused and enjoy a challenge.
We provide an integrated service 24 hours 7 days a week , the Mental Health Service is operational over 7 days, 07.30 – 18.00
The team operates in a supportive and safe environment with a commitment to personal and professional development.
You will work as a registered nurse, with demonstrable experience in mental health and associated professional development. Working with men from arrival in the prison through to their release back into the community , you will feel rewarded in your ability to deliver a bespoke package of care to address and improve health inequalities to individuals with diverse and complex health needs?

HMP Leicester
HMP Leicester is located in the city centre, it is a Category B Local Remand Prison that houses approximately 350 men over the age of 18.
The population is made up of remand, unsentenced and short sentenced residents. The Prison has one large wing, a separate smaller wing for Vulnerable Prisoners.
There is a dedicated healthcare centre located in the main building with other rooms across the establishment where healthcare appointments can be carried out.
The Offender Health Directorate
The Offender Health Directorate is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK.
The Directorate provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands,
Providing healthcare to several Prisons, for a population of over 10 000. You would be part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals, with access to peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development.
We are committed to working in partnership with prison services, national probation service other healthcare providers and our criminal justice system partners to improve health, support justice to reduce re-offending behaviour.
It’s the variety of this role which will provide a stimulating experience like no other, one minute you could be engaging patients in a mental health assessment, delivering therapeutic interventions with patients who have primary or secondary mental health problems, the next you may be facilitating a CPA review or contributing to a risk management meeting due to an individual’s self-harm behaviour.
We work as part of a wide MDT, including GP’s, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, RMN’s, Pharmacists, Substance Misuse Recovery workers, RGN’s, Sexual Health Specialists and other Allied Professionals and have strong links with community services to promote continuity of care.
We have well-established and strong relationships with the prison team, who support us to deliver healthcare safely.
This role enables you to work autonomously, whilst always having the support of a strong team when required.
There are opportunities and support for progression for the right candidate, which can be anything from completing a full Preceptorship to a master’s degree.
These posts are subject to National NHS T&Cs, paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during nights, weekends and bank holidays and we offer a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 to new starters with the Trust in this role (payable in instalments over a 2 year period)
