Highways Operative
We are looking for a Highways Operative to join our Highway Maintenance team based at our depot in Sandford and working across the North Somerset area.
Our Highways team keep communities moving. Join us to help construct and maintain North Somerset Highways. This role is ideal for an experienced and skilled groundworker keen to work as part of a 3 or 4 person team delivering small highway maintenance and improvement projects, whilst also willing to assist with the out of hrs winter maintenance and emergency call out activities via a standby rota.
We will offer you:
- Basic salary range of £26,000 – £29,000 this is dependent on previous experience, skills and qualifications
- OTE - £27,500 - £31,500 with contractual Overtime and Standby

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work on small highway, footpath, drainage, signing and kerbing projects.
- Operate plant and equipment necessary for the project delivery
- Where appropriate provide direction/supervision of the work to less experienced operatives
- Undertake out of hours emergency call out works
- Undertake out of hrs winter maintenance driver duties
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Clean driving License
- A commitment to Health and Safety
- Extensive groundworks experience, preferably in Highways
- Qualifications in the operation of most relevant plant and equipment
- Good communication skills and basic literacy and numeracy
- Ability to undertake a high level of manual work and work outdoors in all weathers
- Willingness to assist in out of hrs Winter Maintenance and Emergency Response duties
- LGV Class C driving license OR demonstrate capability to support investment of LGV Class C training during probationary period
- Commitment to Customer Service
Desirable:
- New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) Operative Accreditation
- CSCS Card
- Highways Operative experience
- Lantra 12 D
- Small tools training
- 360 mini digger – NPORS or CITB
