HGV Mechanic
International Fire Training Centre (IFTC)
Darlington, DL2 1NU
Full Time, Permanent (40 hours per week)
£31,000 per annum plus benefits
Here at Serco, we are currently recruiting for an HGV Mechanic to join the team at the International Fire Training Centre in Darlington. This role will ensure the IFTC fleet is maintained whilst always adhering to procedures and processes. The post holder will undertake maintenance and repair work directly on all vehicles within the fleet and carry out preventative maintenance and routine servicing in accordance with VOSA and manufacturers recommendations.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
- Undertake maintenance and repair work.
- Preventative maintenance and routine servicing.
- Reporting defects or concerns to management.
- Troubleshoot and fault find any defects on machines and carry out repairs.
- Carry out inspections.
- In-house repairs to fire training rigs.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Time served HGV mechanic with in-depth knowledge of LGV/HGVs.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in heavy vehicle service, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience working on Fire Appliances (desirable).
- Hold an HGV Class 1 licence (desirable).
- Experience of basic welding (desirable).
- Experience working with several different chassis.
- Professional and position attitude towards work.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise workloads.
- Flexible, adaptable, and accommodating.
- Working knowledge of health and safety procedures and regulations (e.g., COSHH).
- Effective communication skills.
