1. Knowledge and experience - **Must possess a national vocational qualification in direct care at Level 2 as a minimum and have worked in an area of care.**

2. In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England Guidance ‘Understanding the new NHS’ (details of which can be found in the links section of NHS Jobs).

Assist with obtaining, transmitting and storing information related to the delivery of a care service.
Assist and enable patients/clients to maintain and improve their mobility according to the prescription of care.
Assist and contribute to the movement and treatment of patients/clients to achieve physical comfort and minimise the adverse effects of pressure according to the prescription of care.
Enable and assist patients/clients to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance.
Enable and assist patients/clients with eating/drinking as directed by the prescription of care.
Enable and assist patients/clients to access and use toilet facilities and assist in the care of incontinent patients/clients.
Assist and enable patients/clients to minimise discomfort and pain according to the prescription of care.
Participate in clerical duties associated with the admission and transfer of procedures.
Contribute to minimising the effects of disruptive abusive behaviour and the protection of individuals from abuse.
Participate in the assessment of care needs and the implementation of programmes of care under the direction of a qualified nurse.
Contribute to maintaining effective communication between patients/clients, relatives and friends and the multidisciplinary team.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
To remain updated with issues relating to the post holders individual award.
To retain current competence in line with annual performance review.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES IN SPECIALIST AREAS i.e.
To support patients through their treatment.
Co-ordination of patients needs including specialist needs.
To record observations and report any abnormalities to the Clinical Leader.
Report on how patients are feeling.
Assessment check/monitor of cannulation, recording any abnormalities in the medical records and informing the senior nurse in charge of the unit.
Assess and monitor patient undergoing treatment.
Assess and monitor patient undergoing treatment for any adverse effects, taking appropriate action and report to senior staff. Follow appropriate instructions within HODU’s guidelines to care for the patient during the adverse event.
Chaperone and assist medical staff for specialist procedures ie bone marrows, lumbar punctures and removal of Hickman lines.
Record removal of cannulas following blood transfusion or chemotherapy ensuring appropriate policy and safety procedure is being followed for disposal of drugs, blood bags and giving sets.
To understand and carry out the guidelines for dealing with blood and cytotoxic spillages.
To liaise with other wards and departments as necessary
