Come and join us in Dermatology Outpatients at the Churchill Hospital Full -time Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker Post We are looking for an enthusiastic Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive team of nurses and Doctors in the Dermatology Outpatients Department. This is a busy department that sees in excess of 50,000 outpatients and day cases, with a wide range of dermatology conditions. Working hours will be 37.5 hrs per week (Full-Time) and working hours will be in line with service needs between Monday to Friday, which presently is in the form of long days (8am - 6pm) over four variable days a week. There is occasional opportunities to work at weekends and we currently do not cover bank holidays or night duty. The successful applicant will be required to participate in patient care by assisting clinicians in Dermatology clinics and day case theatres. Duties include ensuring patient comfort and alleviating patient anxiety, undertaking patient observations, assessment and investigations, communication with patients and their relatives, assisting surgeons in our theatres as well as administrative/computer work. As a team we endeavour to support staff to learn and develop their knowledge and skills to enable individuals to feel confident in their role and achieve job satisfaction. We work in a friendly team-orientated environment and have good working relationships with multidisciplinary team members. Previous experience is not essential as training will be provided. The applicant must enjoy working within a team, have a sympathetic, caring nature and sound communication skills. An interest in the skin and skin conditions would be an asset. Working within the procedure suite with specific tasks that include (but are not limited to): collecting patients for procedures, checking PPID, explaining the procedure for Minor operations and ensuring the patient understands what is happening ensure that the patient is assisted into the procedure suite and made comfortable, helping to alleviate anxiety check the WHO checklist and assist the surgeon with the minor operation ensuring equipment is available and biopsy samples are managed correctly maintaining patient comfort and dignity Following completion of the procedure the nurse will apply a dressing to the surgical site give wound care advice and post-procedure instructions, ensuring that patient understands what they need to do to care for their wound and that they have appropriate follow-up in place. communicate with relatives/carers as necessary/appropriate regarding relevant information. The key activities/roles for this post in relation to outpatient clinics and the management of acute and chronic skin disease patients include supporting clinics to run smoothly and efficiently and working within nurse-led clinics when required, alongside Registered Nursing colleagues. chaperoning with medical colleagues as required, maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality supporting Tumour clinics to run smoothly and efficiently supporting both medical and nursing students who may be on placement/education days in the department. ensure that patients have the correct investigations undertaken when needed in the department and signpost them to the appropriate departments if external to dermatology. support patients with personal care needs and nutritional needs and maintaining patient comfort, whilst awaiting patient transport services. work alongside colleagues in maintaining a safe environment for patients and the whole team.
