The United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is a system leader for health security; taking action internationally to strengthen global health security, providing trusted advice to government and the public and reducing inequalities in the way different communities experience and are impacted by infectious disease, environmental hazards, and other threats to health.
Main Responsibilities
The postholder will participate in the provision, research and review of streptococcus and staphylococcus outbreak.
The role:
- Perform a range of standard methods/assays/techniques in support of all activities associated to streptococcus and staphylococcus research, aimed to ensure project deliverables are met on time
- Take responsibility for the provision of reagents and consumables required for project area
- Take responsibility for laboratory housekeeping and supervision of a V&P laboratory following necessary training
- Provide data to input into reports, to meet project targets and for preparation of presentations and publications
The Ideal Candidate
Personal Specification:
- Degree (or equivalent) and relevant experience in a microbiology topic/environment.
- Experience of working with microbiology/molecular biology
- In house laboratory experience including techniques applicable to bacterial molecular methods, sample isolation, purification, storage, DNA extraction, PCR, sanger sequencing analyses, and WGS DNA extraction using Qiasymphony.
- Good understanding and experience of safe working practices and quality.
- Able to work flexibly to meet varying needs
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and independently
