Job description
We are seeking 3 experienced Biomedical Scientists, to join our Porton Laboratory team to support specific to COVID-19 genomic sequencing: RNA extraction of positive COVID-19 samples, sample processing for sequencing, plus other genomic work duties as appropriate.
One post is for a Healthcare Scientist HEO for which State registration is desirable but not essential.
Two posts are for HCPC state registered Biomedical Scientists.
Ideally, candidates should already be state registered with the HCPC however candidates working towards HCPC state registration i.e. within 6 months of completion of training and assessment, will be considered for the BMS posts and if successful will be appointed as a Healthcare Scientist pending successful state registration when their job title may be changed to the protected BMS title.
It is essential that candidates have experience in running NGS platforms and sequencing services without supervision and knowledge of automated liquid handling.
UKHSA Porton plays an important role in preparing for and coordinating responses to potential healthcare emergencies, including possible acts of deliberate release. The site is certified to ISO 9001: 2015 and a number of laboratories are accredited to UKAS ISO 15189: 2012. UKHSA Porton also hold approval to provide IBMS registration and Virology specialist portfolios to provide a diagnostic service to the UK.
