Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, caring and compassionate health care assistant to join our team.

The role will entail working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and contributing positively to the delivery of high quality compassionate care.

The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills and demonstrate delivery of high standards for patient care together with a drive and passion for improving the way healthcare is provided. They must be flexible, a good team player and have the ability to work under pressure.

The post holder will undertake a number of clinical tasks in line with the Healthcare assistant role. The post is based in Fracture and Orthopaedic outpatient clinic at new cross hospital. Duties will include; coordinating and chaperoning in clinic, basic wound care, taking and delivering microbiology samples to the lab, assisting patients with mobility and toileting needs, application of orthotic devices and removal of sutures.

Contribute to the efficient flow of patients through clinic including cleaning down equipment between patients in readiness for the next one.

Delivery of samples to the lab and collecting prescriptions for less able patients where needed.

Basic wound care and removal of stitches or staples.

Height /weight/body mass index assessments.

Health Promotion including advice on diet, exercise, smoking cessation.

Act as chaperone/assist with clinical examination as required.

Act as patient’s advocate promoting patient’s point of view to others.

Maintain accurate records of patient care.

Report changes in condition of patient/areas of concern to relevant member of clinical staff and ensure documented action is taken.

To follow relevant protocols, guidelines and best practice, e.g. local protocols, NICE guidance.

To contribute to safe working environment for all through adherence to health and safety management systems

Correctly handle confidential information in line with your duties, and to actively support information governance policies, processes and systems.

Participation in the service’s appraisal and personal development processes.

To work at all times within boundaries of one’s competence, taking personal responsibility to keep abreast of change.

To act in a professional manner at all times towards patients and staff.
