The successful applicant will be an NHS employee and may therefore have contact with vulnerable service users. Unless exempt, we encourage and support staff to be vaccinated as this remains the best line of defence against COVID-19.

Job overview

Successful applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre at Carew House, Bodmin on 18th August 2023. This will be a morning or afternoon to be confirmed.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic band 3 HCA to join our team, working within an 8 bedded PICU that provides assessment and treatment for inpatients aged 18 and over, presenting with a mental health crisis.

This role is not for the faint-hearted, it will be challenging and pressurised; but ultimately it will be extremely rewarding and have an emphasis on providing a therapeutic environment which promotes the principles of person centred care that is least restrictive and recovery focused.

The post requires an individual with strong communication skills who has the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary ward team. This role requires someone who can work under pressure and be adaptable.

Applicants must have some experience of working within the mental health setting, be flexible, hardworking and compassionate with a desire to work in a fast pace environment. You will have access to training and development, annual appraisals and clinical supervision.

If you believe you have the right attributes to accept the challenges that this position brings and you want to play a key role in service development, then we look forward to receiving your application.

Main duties of the job

To Support the delivery of care needs by carrying out assigned tasks involving direct care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

  • To contribute to the evaluation of programs of care by reporting to the clinical supervisor.
  • As part of a team, provide high quality mental health care to the service users
  • To promote recovery.
  • To do all the above in a manner that maintains safety for all.
  • To assist in service and good practice developments.

Working for our organisation

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
