We are seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our outstanding Residential Special School
Bradstow is a creative and unique residential school for children between the ages of 5 & 19. It is situated in 13 acres of parkland in Broadstairs, Kent.

Healthcare Assistant – The Role:
The Healthcare Assistant will provide flexible, high-quality care for young people and staff at the school. This will include a leading role in providing first aid, arranging of medical appointments and the management and administration of medication as required.
Under the direction of the Nurse the HCA will provide a range of practical and administrative tasks to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young people.
Key Responsibilities;
To administer the distribution of prescription drugs and other medication.- Dispensing prescribed medication to students
- Ensure medication cabinets and stores are always locked and handle computer data in a strictly private and confidential manner.
- To receive young people and staff who are ill into the welfare room and carry out an initial first aid check and ensure appropriate care and administer first aid within the competencies of the First Aid Certification to be held by the post holder. Keep appropriate records.
- Attend to the students who are feeling unwell or are injured.
- Day to day care of pupils for injuries, illness, and pupils with serious medical conditions
- Book medical appointments and ensure all relevant professionals are communicate with appropriately.
- Attend medical appointments
- To decide whether students will need further medical attention and take appropriate action
- Attend emergency medical incidents wherever they occur in the School and undertake whatever action necessary to stabilize and assist the casualty, which may include calling the emergency services.
- Contacting parent/guardian of sick and injured children to inform, advise, or seek guidance on the next course of action.
- Travel in ambulance to hospital as required by the School.
- Organise incontinence assessments and order supplies.
- Following school procedures in line with individual care plans
- To ensure that injured students who cannot be brought to the welfare room are attended to and cared for
- To provide feedback to the relevant line manager where necessary and as requested
- Taking part in any training required to enable safe and efficient working
- Be a qualified first aider, with refresher training every 3 years.
- Monitoring (including stock rotation), Ordering and distributing of First Aid Supplies including those used on field trips and activities.
- Any other duties commensurate with grade as directed by Line Manager or Senior Management
- To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people.
- To ensure that the line manager is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which the worker may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection.
- Support the nurse to fulfil her role.
Healthcare Assistant – What we need from you:
Qualifications & Experience
First Aid at Work Certificate (3 Day course)- Safe Handling of Medication
- Experience working with individuals that display challenging behaviour
- Experience administering medication
The above training can be provided by the school but staff must commit to complete the above courses within the allotted timeframe.
Knowledge
Knowledge of autism and associated difficulties
Abilities and Skills
Well organised with evidence of good administrative skills- Proven evidence of ability to relate to colleagues, external agencies, members of the public
- Good communication skills
- Proven evidence of ability to relate to young people with autism
