Job description

To assist the clinical team to provide a standard of patient care which is in accordance with agreed nursing practice and Trust Policy, through the provision of basic nursing care and housekeeping duties. To rotate through all clinical areas to meet service needs.
1. Preparation of clinical areas prior to procedure, ensuring that all equipment is available and in correct working order, complete relevant checklist documentation and report any discrepancies to the team leader and report faults to the appropriate helpdesk.
2. Ensure adequate supplies of supplementary items and linen are available and ensure the area is stocked up at the end of the each session ordering supplies as appropriate.
3. Support the clinical team as required; carry out medico-legal checks as per endoscopy procedure, act as room operative and assist in collection of biopsies in the endoscopy rooms.
4. Take delivery, check in relevant items and store all supplies and equipment for the clinical area.
5. Transfer patients to and from clinical areas
6. Assist in the safe moving and positioning of patients using appropriate moving and handling aids / hoists.
7. Receiving patients in the clinical area – e.g. check patient’s details prior to procedures and chaperone patients in this area
8. Assist in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that all areas are kept clear of potential hazards, removing clinical waste and contaminated items i.e. blood products to relevant collection points.
9. Complete Specimen Details as instructed, deliver specimens to path lab/ x–ray as per local policy
10. Check, clean and prepare all transfer trolleys – i.e. Oxygen, suction, resuscitation equipment, linen and replace, as required
11. Mix chemical haz-tabs for cleaning of clinical areas

Communication
1. Communicate with patients and colleagues by telephone face to face, in writing or electronically.
2. Electronically in order to contribute to the efficient running of the department.
3. Co-operate with members of the disciplinary team.
1. Communicate any problems with the patient to a relevant clinically registered practitioner
2. Participate in regular staff meetings

3. To report as soon as is practically possible any hazards or defects.
